ROCK: Modern Rock, ROCK: Hard Rock
Of all the places to look for the new face of modern music, one would not likely consider Idaho; yet, this is precisely where the groundbreaking band Lystra's Silence comes from. Lystra's Silence began composing and performing music together six years ago. The Band's current line-up includes Sherry Muchira (vocals), David King (guitar), Tim Muchira (drums), John Nuhn (bass), and Mickie Newby (backup vocals), and the close-knit group has been making music together for two years.
This worship infused, female led, more-than-modern rock band has influences that span the musical spectrum. Lystra's Silence's signature sound has been described as a mixture of Sixpence None the Richer and Incubus; this sound, combined with the energy and quality found in their live performances, has secured Lystra's Silence a strong fan base, which spans the United States.
Lystra's Silence released their debut album, So Real...So True... in early 1999, which received rave reviews and airplay primarily in the Northwest. In July of 2001, they released a 4-song EP "Throw it all Away", which debuted their developing signature sound. Lystra's Silence's most recent project was released in July of 2002; titled "Brink", the album highlights the edgier side of their signature sound. Brink is rapidly catching the attention of the Christian music world, including radio stations across the country, and even the producers of Festival Con Dios, the popular, traveling music festival; Bob Smiley, emcee for the Festival, commented, "I was hooked. I knew I'd be listening to the entire album; it's great."
The versatility of Lystra's Silence enables them to play in venues ranging from full-blown performances in auditoriums and arenas to intimate acoustic sets in coffeehouses and bookstores. In these diverse settings, Lystra's Silence has had the honor of performing with many of today's popular Christian musicians including Smalltown Poets, Skillet, Knowdaverbs, Rock and Roll Worship Circus, and Gryp. Because of their unique sound and quality music, Lystra's Silence was selected to play alongside some of the biggest names in Christian music at the 1999 National Catholic Youth Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. Lystra's Silence accepted invitations to perform on The Extreme Tour in the summers of 2001 and 2002; on the Tour, they performed alongside some of Christian music's hottest new bands.
Lystra's Silence is ready to secure themselves a spot in Christian music as one of the most versatile and unique new bands, and they are dedicated to spreading the Gospel and expanding the Kingdom by worshiping God with their music and their lives.
