Details:
MARITA BRAKE IS THE AUDIO EQUIVALENT OF A WALK IN THE COUNTRY ON A BREEZY SUMMER DAY...HER VOICE IS BOTH ELEGANT AND FREE FLOWING, SHOWING A SOULFUL INDIVIDUALITY.
Where would life be without Homegrown Tomatoes?" And where would life be without musicians and songwriters like Marita Brake! This is a terrific CD with as eclectic a collection of songs as you can imagine a contemporary acoustic musician performing. Apart from displaying her considerable song writing skills in songs like Think On These Things and Gypsy Moon, this CD also features traditional melodies and songs from such disparate sources as Bob Dylan''s Forever Young and Fat Walter''s Ain''t Misbehavin''. Marita possesses a fine clear voice with an impressive range that makes whatever song she''s singing her own. Superb back-up work. Buy it! By Don Downing
Anyone who kicks off an album with a strident Appalachian flavoured version of Shady Grove and includes Guy Clarke''s paen to organic gardening in Homegrown Tomatoes is fine by me. Marita Brake is something of an amphidexterous individual singer, song-writer, multi laid back and suggests in her own words "the audio equivalent of a walk in the country on a breezy summer day", and her voice both eloquent and free flowing qualifies the hyperbole. The Flower That Shattered The Stone shows an easy way with dramatic ballads and Think On These Things suggests a soulful individuality. One to keep the tabs on... By John O''Reagan, Limerick Ireland
