ROCK: Acoustic, POP: Power Pop
From the beginning, music has been an integral part in the life of Michelle Mayfield. Born in Atlanta, Georgia Michelle can be seen in photos as early as the age of 3 with a guitar or a play microphone in hand belting out a tune for family or friends. Influenced early on by bands such as Kiss, Journey, and Boston, Michelle picked up the drumsticks at the early age of seven and took out her musical passion on a second hand three piece drum kit. It wasn't until her brother introduced her to a singer from New York named Pat Benatar that her passion switched from behind the drums to the front of the stage as a singer/songwriter. "Pat Benatar was my first major influence and still is to this day. As a young impressionable female it was so important to have a role model with such a strong voice, presence, and attitude; it had a major impact on where I am today as a singer/songwriter".
Michelle dabbled in music throughout her high school and college years, playing in bands and writing songs on her own. However, due to her athletic commitments (she was a scholarship athlete for Texas A&M University) she was unable to pursue music full time. She earned her degree in Sports Management from Texas A&M University and continued to follow the athletic path, getting a head coaching job at a small college in Belton, Texas, conveniently where she lived from the age of five until her graduation from high school.
In 1997, she quit her coaching job and moved to Austin, Texas, to pursue music full time. After several job changes and failed musical partners, she met Tommy Hill and Steve Ebert, who would become producers of her debut CD entitled "Matter of Time", released in 2000. Since the release, Michelle has focused on putting a stellar group of musicians together to support her live shows, including her producing/songwriting partner Reese Perkins on guitar. It has paid off, with Michelle earning spots on both the 2005 and 2004 Austin Chronicle's Best of Austin Music Lists (2005 - #3 Best Performing Rock Band, #9 Best New Band; 2004 - #14 Best Female Vocalist). She has also put her energies into writing new material, which will be released in August 2005.
Michelle is currently playing live performances in Austin, as well as surrounding cities such as San Antonio, Dallas and Houston. She has a very loyal and quickly growing fan base, which she dearly loves and appreciates. "It's so incredible and very rewarding to see fans singing along with the songs and enjoying every minute of the show. It's definitely the best part of this business and it's the thing that keeps you writing and keeps you singing."
