Legion Within''s debut album Ayumi garnered them praise including "[they] create beautiful gothic atmospheres with an airy ethereal feel" (Outburn) and "If you''ve been longing for gothic rock in the classic style, Legion Within will satisfy your craving" (Industrial Nation).
Legion Within''s much anticipated follow-up album AEONS has built upon their "old world ambience" with the creepy carnival sound of "Dream Carny" and industrial weight of KMFDM''s "Cover Me" remix.
With both albums consistently receiving club and radio play locally and internationally, Legion Within''s distinctive sound sets them among the best in their genre.
----REVIEWS----
Legion Within is a band risen out of Seattle realizing musically what the original Goth bands aspired to. Aeons is their second full length album. Each song answers the debate of our emotional bodies ever struggling to be articulated with satisfaction. This is a five person band of regal musicians rich with creative talent and skillful delivery. The personality of the lead vocalist, William Wilson, resonates through his voice so completely he reaches out and grasps you in an embrace of profound clarity. Track three/Ghetto Dragon features Raven''s voice which adds a special dimension to the band that''s smooth and sweet as caramel. Presently working on their third album they''ll hopefully include more vocal harmonies of the two singing together on it. Legion Within is a band you can witness the live performance of again and again because the music has infinite integrity which recedes into the darkness like a light that never goes out illuminating aspects of the self long since forgotten. Even a fool is wise in the midst of swirly Gothic Rock embued with the ornate tones of Legion Within. If you''re fortunate you will see them perform one day in your hometwon. Elsewise, they''re captured powerfully in recordings available via their web site: https://www.tradebit.com. Spin around till you''re dizzy even while you''re sitting down head squeezed comfortably between headphones, or request one of their songs at a Gothic dance club where you can steal the floor with zeal.

Goth band Legion Within creates dark, but atmospheric music on their second album. Singer William Wilson chooses to forge his own identity rather than emulate an idol, which is always sensible.
"Dream Carny" is an unusual track with a darkly compelling mood. Wilson''s soft vocal fits the song and visions of a twisted Ray Bradbury style circus come forth. "Glass Ships" evokes the classic goth era without resorting to mere nostalgia. It''s mournful and oddly catchy. "Pray" comes across as dirgey and offers a rather bleak view of the world. Wilson exaggerates his vibrato here, but the odd Spanish flourishes of the instrumentation keeps the song interesting. The lengthy "The Sky is Falling" goes psychedelic on us and the band handle it well. Odd voices drift in and out of the mix.
It''s a very good record and not just for goth fans.

Occasionally bands can impress just by the sheer ease with which their seamless compositions assume bold posture while mischievously appearing supine and quite listless. It''s the magic ingredients of slowness, articulation, and rhythmical reticulation that usually does it, and here we have a band who are very slow, very grand, without grandiloquence, and pretty damn strange without trying for enigmatic. They''re just different, close to Myssouri. Like a modern version of The Triffids but without the squalid drama, Legion Within are very, very tidy.
William Wilson is a very odd singer as well. People may label him a baritone all like they like but he''ll quiver as much as he quavers, as vibrato runs wild in his mouth, making the lines stretch out and ring with his charisma.
Opening with ''Cover Me'' they set their best song seeping around you with cold bass and recurring keyboards, as Wilson slides into view. It''s noir, it''s slippery and histrionic, and utterly captivating. ''Dream Carny'' has that queasy fairground trickiness of The Tunnel Of Love but with Jeff Wagner''s scariness. This is actually closer in tone to Andi Sex Gang, while ''Glass Ships'' is far more conventional but for Wilson''s pert peculiarities, this time buffeted by glowing guitar. It''s a jolly song, that also verges on crazed.
''Ghetto Dragon'' is a beautiful slow crawl with tapping percussion and lithe guitar flourishes over which precise, haunting female vocals are poured, ''Pray'' is lightly Goth, having a touch more life to it, with the focus on the pressurised delivery of the vocals across sparse, beating backing. This leads into a jangling cover of Love & Rockets'' ''Earth Sun Moon'' and then, weirdly, ''The Sky Is Falling'' is virtually the same in its approach so things have merged and become still once more. Guitars low gently, everything seems dusty as if early morning light glares in your face.
Then the KMFDM remix of ''Cover Me'' highlights the simple grandeur of that song by making them seem exciting, which is almost uncouth! But that''s the way of a great song, you simply can''t ruin it, just elevate it.
It''s a shame this is a mini-album because you want more substance to make the experience truly satisfying. These are tantalising glimpses, and they''re obviously making us wait, the bastards!
Repeat after me - BASTARDS!!!!

"Legion Within is an ethereal gothrock band based in Seattle. Their sound is specific. Atmospherical guitarplay, keyboard sounds, chello and a powerful mournful voice of tenor/bariton singer William Wilson form the basis of the songs of Legion Within. ''Cover Me'' is a track full of held back tension. Musical comparisons which are made are with Peter Murphy, Human Drama and also with Dead Can Dance. I would like to add The Chameleons and 16 Horsepower to that.
The music has an underlying feel of blues and rock ''n roll but the sound pattern is quite ethereal, in the direction of shoegazer. ''Dream Carny'' is a great song. It almost sounds like a creepy kind of carnival, with the excellent voice of William combined with dreamy soundscape music. ''Glass Ships'' is faster, with conjuring vocals and a bluesy feel. This is a topband and an absolute discovery that let''s us hear that gothic rock can still be alive and kicking. ''Ghetto Dragon'' musically is a more intimate track.''Pray'' sounds more optimistic, with psychedelic guitar- and pianoplay and with more speed. ''Earth Sun Moon'' is a song that is more down to earth although it''s also sounding dreamy. ''The Sky is Falling'' is a melancholic song.
There''s a lot of promotion with the use of the last track on this cd, a remix of ''Cover Me'' by KMFDM and of course it is nice when a big name is attached to your cd and you get more attention due to this, but it may be stated firmly that Legion Within is able to convince the listener on it''s own merits just easily. This is simply excellent."

Reviewing pre-release samplers is not my usual thing, since it tends to be difficult for other people to find a copy and have a listen. I can''t give it a number rating from just three tracks. However, judging from what I''ve heard here, the full album promises to be good. The big release party is on the 5th of December, in Seattle. It will be available online from CD Baby, Projekt, and Amazon.
A fine cross-section of musical styles, fresh yet familiar. There are so many moments where I feel I ought to draw comparisons, but I don''t want to bore anyone with a long list of the names of artists who are not Legion Within. Suffice it to say that it should please those who are fond of old-school gothic rock. The instrumentation is recorded much cleaner than a lot of the old songs from way back when; but fear not, the vocals are as effected as ever. Bonus points: the ensemble includes guitar soundscapes.
"Cover Me" (the KMFDM remix) is the hardest track on this short CD (three tracks - thirteen & some minutes). No one is suprised. Through all the synth and manipulations, the piano rings pure.
There''s a sliding unsteadiness that gives "Dream Carny" a delightful lounge feel, between the the electric organ ("browr-wrowr" (!!!)) and the bass. That I noticed the bass at all should be significant, considering my preferred EQ settings.
"Glass Ships" is an ethereal glory. The acoustic guitar and flute/synth made me think "The Carnival is Over" - a personal connection I made to the title of the previous song, probably, but also the instrumentation. And then it started rocking with the drums and more aggressive guitar.
I would be interested in reading the lyrics.
