Poised on the verge of a national music and marriage ministry, Sarah Schieber was ready to take on the world for God. Then, in a heartbeat, her husband Chad was called Home, and her life and ministry changed forever.
Chad and Sarah Schieber had a story book marriage. High-school sweethearts, Sarah led Chad to the church where he was saved. Chad escorted Sarah to her high school prom. Three children and 12 years later, they were happier than they had ever been. Best friends and com¬panions, they loved to do everything together. They had the kind of loving relationship that served as an example to other couples. Chad and Sarah were very involved in their church. They were serving their second tenure on the board of Christian Celebration Center in Midland, Michigan. They served the church as marriage coun¬selors, and taught a weekly series for couples seeking to strengthen their relationships.
Chad and Sarah wanted to combine her singing ministry with their heart for marriages. Sarah has sung since she was a child. Her parents were in the music business, and sang in churches around Michigan. Sarah studied classical voice at Anderson University, in Indiana. There she met Dr. Richard Sowers, and received in-depth classical training as well as a degree in music business. Sarah recorded two CDs and toured extensively with the group Sojourn for eight years.
In June 2006, months of prayer and waiting on the Lord finally led Chad and Sarah to Gaither’s Studio C, where she recorded her first solo CD with the help of Steve Millikan, a Dove award-winning producer, as well as such amazing musicians as Dane Clark, who plays drums for John Mellencamp, and Steve Dokken, who toured with Henry Mancini. Featuring new songs that she wrote or cowrote, and new takes on old favorites, this warm and jazzy contemporary Christian album celebrates love, marriage, friendship, and Christ’s love for us. Chad was Sarah’s biggest cheerleader and even co-wrote the song “Mustard Seed.” The events of the last few months have given the CD an even deeper meaning as the project becomes a musical souvenir of their life together.
Last August, a very successful CD release concert was held in Cadillac, Sarah’s hometown, as a benefit for a local Christian charity. Other concerts were planned. Marriage retreats were booked. Sarah was preparing to tour to promote her brand new CD, called “gratitude.”
Life then changed in an instant. On October 7, 2007, while running with Sarah in the Chicago Marathon, Chad collapsed and died.
During the weeks following Chad’s death, Sarah’s faith in God, and the love of her family, church, and community helped her to cope with the devastating loss of her husband and father of her children. Local radio stations began to play one of the songs from the CD as a tribute to Chad and Sarah’s marriage and his legacy as a Christian man. “Until The Very End” was co-written by Sarah and two friends to be a testament to Christian marriage. Sarah’s soaring vocals, combined with recording artist Brent Henderson’s on this duet version, inspire and amaze the listener with warmth and tenderness. The lyrics take on much more poignancy now, as this Biblical love song stands for a couple’s enduring love and marriage, ended all too soon.
Now, radio stations throughout the country are playing this love song, and brides are requesting the song to be sung at their weddings.
Sarah is preparing for concerts and other ministry opportunities, as she learns to pick up the pieces of her shat¬tered fairy tale and go forward in service to the God she loves.
The story behind the making of “gratitude” is the same as it was a few weeks ago, but the story of where “gratitude” is going is changing, as the Lord puts Sarah on course for something
totally new and different. Sarah will continue to live and sing and minister for the Lord, sharing her powerful testimony of God’s grace and love.
