Details:
''Remembering Wild'' celebrates the essential experiences of wilderness; joy, energy, reflection and intimacy. Rather than explicit portrayals of wild places and things, this music is a response to the experiences such places evoke. Many of the pieces arose in the mountain and desert landscape of the Northwest, accented by the light of seasonal change and the flow of water.
In his youth, Patrick lived in California and Uganda, East Africa. He returned to the USA and began university. After finishing graduate school, Patrick began an academic career in psychology that took him and his family to Oregon and New Zealand. From an early age, he improvised music on the piano, and studied classical piano in New Zealand and Oregon, and then began to develop his compositional craft. Influences in Patrick''s music include Debussy, Vaughan Williams, John Adams, and Ralph Towner. Patrick also assimilated some rhythmic and melodic impressions of the indigenous musical of central Africa where he spent some of his youth. He recalls the bodily vibrations felt standing among a legion of Baganda drummers outside of Kampala welcoming the return of their King.
Patrick now divides his time between Bend, Oregon and Nelson, New Zealand. When not composing music, he explores the deserts and mountains of Central Oregon, and works as a professional counselor.
