WHAT IS REAL
by Matt Weaver

Released in May of 2004, "What Is Real" captures an eclectic array of musical influences from rock, jazz, latin, and world styles. "What Is Real" has been dubbed "Universal Rock" with a new unorthodox style of composition in contrast to the traditional rock style we''re accustomed to. Although this CD is for the most part instrumental, Matt''s inability to hold back his political thoughts break through on "Port au Prince" and "Imperialist".

Matt performs on all guitars, bass, all percussion and synthesizer / keyboard. He says, "at fifty, with quite a bit of coaxing, I thought it was about time that I should finally release a collection of my "feels" - little did I know, I''m finding there''s a lot more coming through - I''ve actually started the second CD called "Audio Pilot" (the name of my band) which I''m hoping will be released in Summer of 2004."

"What Is Real" is powerful with solid rhythms combined with "big" guitar, drums and snythesizer sound. Matt''s influences have been Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, Led Zepplin, Santana, and Return to Forever. Matt grew up in Newport, Rhode Island and was heavily influenced by the Newport Jazz and Folk Festivals. "I was so lucky to have had the opportunity to witness the best music in the world. I thank George Wein for that." Matt has played professionally for over three decades at countless venues both on the East Coast and West Coast. He says, "I find myself torn between my roots as a power rock player and the sounds of new artists in the "world / new age" music arena. I hope to continue to move toward combining the two together." Matt now lives in a small Downeast coastal town in Maine, where he operates his Nashville style "New Sun Sound Studio". He calls his studio "a grant program for musicians" basically because it''s so affordable. It'' something he''s always wanted to do - "the arts are where it''s at."
