PANDORA - an album of music for Concert Guitar and Electric Bass.
The most famous bass player in the world - Herbie Flowers, and award winning guitarist Richard Durrant played together in the band SKY for a national tour in 1993. The two have remained firm friends ever since and finally released their first duo album “Pandora” at the end of 2002.
Their live show consists of a compelling blend of original and familiar repertoire, great guitar tunes and music biz anecdotes. Durrant’s “Exploring the Deep” for steel strung guitar and bass, and his “Early Learning Sonata” for classical guitar and bass are a big feature of the performances - and the two usually throw in a few SKY favourites for good measure!
Herbie has played bass for David Bowie, https://www.tradebit.comx, Harry Nilson, Paul MacCartney and Henry Mancini to name but a few. His most famous bass line was for Lou Reed’s hit song “Walk on the Wild Side”. He is the ultimate musician’s musician.
Richard Durrant has given solo recitals at classical venues throughout Europe including concerto appearances with the Royal Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestras. He has released several solo albums
Richard also composes television and concert music and spends much of his time producing others (notably the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain). He is the founder of the maverick acoustic label LongMan Records.
In 2007 Richard gave over fifty performances of his “The Guitar Whisperer” show. He is currently completing work on the pilot for his own TV series and will be releasing two new albums and DVD’s during 2008. Bookings for the coming year already include an appearance as guest soloist with the RPO at the Royal Albert Hall (May 15th). Richard can currently be heard playing the ukulele behind the BBC1 skating penguins logo.
In 2002, to mark his work promoting art in the community, Durrant was presented with a Daily Mail Golden Jubilee Award by HRH The Prince of Wales.
