Nicole Pryor feels very blessed to be singing daily in the longest running show on Broadway, The Phantom of The Opera, in which she currently plays the roles of The Confidante, Wardrobe Mistress, and Ensemble each night at the Venetian in Las Vegas. She is also excited to have released her debut album, “Nicole - Unplugged.” Each song on this album was written, played on the piano, and sung by Nicole. The “Unplugged” title describes the live aspect of the CD, which includes only piano and vocal. She is excited to finally be singing her own music live, which she believes is an honest expression of her emotion and experience.
Nicole''s study of music began at the age of 12 when a chorus teacher, Raymond Hebel, found that she had a talent for singing. Her studies of classical voice earned her KCET''s Emerging African American Artist Award and a vocal scholarship to Pepperdine University where she graduated with a degree in Advertising and Music. Following her graduation, student loans and bills made working a necessity, which put singing on hold. She worked as a receptionist at Johnson and Murphy Advertising and a special education algebra teacher at El Camino Real High School, and a private voice teacher. She currently runs a chapter of Vocal Power Academy in Las Vegas as a private voice teacher.
Over the years, her love for music grew to the point that she abandoned conventional 8-5 jobs to focus on auditioning for every performance opportunity. She began temping and continued teaching private voice lessons, which gave her the freedom she needed. Her hard work and focus led to being cast in many shows all over the country and in Canada. She spent 3 months in Calgary, Alberta, Canada performing the songs of favorite music icons, like Patti LaBelle and The Pointer Sisters, in the musical review "California Dreaming". She fulfilled one of her dreams by performing the role of Sarah in "Ragtime" at three different Southern California Equity Theaters: Musical Theatre West, Performance Riverside and Cabrillo Music Theater. Other roles include: Rusty in "Footloose" (Moonlight Amphitheater), Yonah in "Children of Eden" (Conejo Players Theater), and Mae Rose Cottage in the original opera by Michael J. Lewis, "Under Milk Wood" (Herbert Zipper Concert Hall). She also enjoyed a year performing at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, with the a cappella group, American Vybe, with whom she had the great opportunity to perform on the Wayne Brady Show. After her year in Florida, she was hired regularly to sing for special events for the Walt Disney Company in Anaheim. Her favorite event thus far was co-hosting the New Year''s Eve Celebration at Disneyland. In addition to her stage work, she has been hired to sing on studio recordings. Her vocal recording of “Song of the Albatross” on Jim Centorino’s “Three Dreams” Album earned her a GRAMMY Award Submission.
Nicole loves to perform and knows that performing professionally is a blessing. Without the support of her family and friends, she would not have made it to this point in her career. She looks forward to more performance opportunities and she can''t wait to see what''s in store for her in the future.
