This recording is the culmination of 30 years of making music. I started entertaining with my Father, Mother and Brother, as The Moyses Family Band in the mid 1970’s. A sample of our self-made happiness is included here with “My home’s across the Blue Ridge Mountains”. I enjoy all styles of acoustic music. A good example is my version of the Oasis “pop” song, “Wonderwall”.

I’m very proud of my band, Hayley Moyses and The Bluegrass Forum. Justin Breame (composer, teacher and first rate guitar and mandolin player) co-wrote “Undertow” and “The answer is no”. John Bates picks the five-string banjo, Andy Doyle lays down the heartbeat of the band on double bass and my life-long friend Mike King sings marvellous harmonies, plays the Dobro guitar and anything else with strings!

My late Dad enjoyed traditional jazz. We used to attend concerts (and join in!) with The Vintage Hot Orchestra in Norwich when my brother Sean and I were teenagers. Dad would have enjoyed the Western Swing/Jazz styled “Walking after midnight” and “My Daddy and me” is my dedication to him. This song was taken from a Tom Paxton record that I won at a folk club when I was twelve years old!

My mother Jacqui sings the Tommy Makem song “The Boys of Killybegs” on this CD. It was through my mother’s enthusiasm for folk music that we performed as a family in local folk clubs and I consequently made my first solo television performance in 1978 with the song “The Fox”. My mother writes her own songs too and sings anything from folk to jazz.

My brother Sean plays banjo professionally and currently lives in Germany. On this project he played mandolin, guitar and sang harmonies. I appeared on his recording “It’s banjo time!” that was also recorded at the Guthoff studio near Bonn, Germany. I’m delighted to include his jazz friends Fraser Gartshore playing piano, Björn Klaus playing double bass and drummer Marco Just on this recording.
