HandinHand is the DJ/production/song-writing duo Mike Genato from Central Jersey & Katy Walker from Red Hook, Brooklyn. Veteran record producer, Mike Genato, (Mathematics, Peter Hadar) and music composer for tv and film (https://www.tradebit.com) has been releasing/licensing music for over 10 years and Katy has been DJing for equally as long. Katy is also a mult-talented graphic designer (https://www.tradebit.com), photographer and art director.
One of the singer/song-writers featured on the project is Yadira Brown who wrote & performed “Sweet Relief ”. Yadira is an Austin-based artist whose music mixes electronic production with the singer’s warm, powerful voice and passionate lyrics to produce a unique, mature sound that stands completely on its own. In the past she appeared on the Living Legends (the Grouch) and Bus Drivers albums. Leaving underground hip-hop behind in order to pursue a more enlightened, feminine and personal sound, Yadira began writing new material and performing regularly in Austin and surrounding areas. Vocalist Dee Teague performed “Free like Me” on the album which has been popular among DJs. Singer/song-writer, Irene Merring also co-wrote and arranged the powerful album opener, “Time Will Tell”. Jazz trumpet player, Fabio Morgera is also featured on the upbeat song "Latin vs. Jazz".
The inspiration for this album varies from Radiohead to Berlin artist, Apparat, Portishead, dub and soul music, film soundtracks and old-school production techniques. The music is hard to define because each song has elements of dub hip-hop, R&B, rock, soul, funk, latin and reggae music. Five songs feature vocalists with unique song-writing and singing styles and the remaining five songs are instrumental. The songs have loops and samples but the initial ideas started by sitting down at a keyboard and working off a minor chord progression so there is a underlining melancholy to the album.
