The history of the No-No Boys began at the University of Northern Colorado, in Greeley, Colorado. Band members Kristy and Derrick had played music together previously in the annual luau band at UNC in 1995. In 1996 Julia joined the luau band, and later, the three members began playing together on a sporadic basis. Realizing that their tastes and love for music were similar, Kristy and Julia began writing music together in late 1999 and soon after recruited Derrick for occasional jam sessions. Shortly after this, Christian joined the group, rounding out the band lineup. A name was decided upon and The No-No Boys were born.
Initially, the band played at house parties, but eventually ventured out to play at area bars in Greeley. In the summer of 2000, The No-No Boys were offered the chance to make a CD with a new record label, Island Fire Productions, in Hawaii. Excited, the band relocated to Honolulu in September to take advantage of this opportunity. It was a turbulent first year for the young band, full of both negative and positive experiences, which included a change in the lineup. After answering an ad in a local paper, Dwight joined the band in August of 2001, filling the drummer position.
In November 2001, The No-No Boys efforts were finally available publicly with the release of "Unexpected Turbulence"; the first professional recording made by the band. "hipNOTherapy", the band''s sophomore effort was independently produced and released in April https://www.tradebit.com future looks bright for The No-No Boys as they thrill audiences with their unique blend of island, rock, and reggae.
