Details:
Phuong You Norway came about in a funny little fashion. Phuong Nguyen, a singer-songwriter originally from St. Paul, MN, is intent on writing acoustic pop ditties, ever searching for that perfect pop song, while finding other nuggets of inspiration along the way. Minneapolis winters and the wanderlust of a young man are filtered through sunny melodies, a boyish tenor, and a trusty acoustic guitar.

Playing clubs around Minneapolis such as the 7th St. Entry and the now-defunct Foxfire Music Club in the mid to late nineties as front man for the guitar band Beow Mix, he began looking for something else. A new focus and appreciation for the art of songwriting had begun. While exploring the genius of John Lennon and Alex Chilton, to the modern day heroes of Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel and the late Elliott Smith, a move to Boston at the turn of the century found him bouncing off ideas and egos with a local songwriter and poet, Scott Creney of the Guerilla Poets. This led to three albums as an acoustic duo, Fuck You Norway. These albums, "I Like the Silence Better", "Thank You for Here", and "Hello Allergic" have seeded their way through the underground, never to be released officially. A home-grown labor of love, the albums boast laments of love lost, homes left, and meditations on faith and death filtered through a heartfelt and literate pen and voice. These songs are constructed around a pop-inflected ear and remain eminently engrossing.

Returning to Minneapolis in the Fall of 2000, Nguyen finished medical school at the University of Minnesota in 2004. However, during this time, he recorded a rough album of demos titled "Of Nonsense and Earthquakes" in May 2002. Shows at local bars and coffee shops, including the Terminal Bar, Nina''s, and the European Grind resulted in a faithful following. The best of the material recorded from February of 2000 through May 2002 was compiled and released as "A Beautiful Mistake." Following this, Nguyen retreated to Fargo, ND in August of ''03 with a wealth of new material written from the summer of 2002 through the summer of 2003 to record a fleshed-out album of melancholy string-tinged acoustic and electric pop songs with longtime producer Brad Thurow. This 14 track record entitled "Sirens and Accidents" was released on May 4, 2004 with a successful full band CD release show in Minneapolis. This record is available on Song Room Records. Nguyen has recently relocated to New York City in June ''04, to fulfill a general surgery residency. He resides there now, and has written almost another album''s worth of songs, planning to record in Spring/Summer of 2005 with a new band.
