Details:
Since 2006, one of the Bay Area’s premier acoustic rock ensembles has delighted audiences with their soulful blend of roots music from around the world. Featuring a wide range of instrumentation on original as well as traditional songs and covers, Caravan’s talents have coalesced in their latest offering “Dig Dem Roots”

The Players

Multi-instrumentalist Vince Abdul Kabir, free spirit, idealist and troubadour has been playing guitar, harmonica, keyboards and percussion in various projects in the Bay Area underground for years, from theater to solo performance to rock bands. Will Hughes, singer-songwriter and masterful guitarist hails from New Jersey and Florida and came to the Bay Area seeking its renowned and fecund music scene. Canadian percussionist Mark Halpert first studied tabla under a music guru in Varanasi, India. He also trained on the African ngoma in Zanzibar and adds a diversity of percussion to the Caravan sound with dumbeck, djembe, cajon and shakers. Kater Murch, a consummate cellist played with the group for two years leaving his skillful stylings on these recordings while bassist Elliot Warren joined the group in 2008 adding a tantalizing new element. Elliot has been playing bass for many years producing his own recordings doubling up on guitar and voice. His influences range from rock to klezmer and everything in between.

Dig Dem Roots

We love roots music and know the healing power of traditional folk forms which is why you will hear everything from traditional blues to reggae to a yodel on this album. Will Hughes even pulls out his recorder for a Medieval song while Kabir''s searing harmonica helps re-establish the blues harp as the saxophone of folk music. This album has something for everyone, from rocking numbers like Worth Fighting For and Old Soul to New Orleans Blues, a thoughtful meditation on Katrina. The album finishes with a live recording of the folk classic John Hardy from a webcast in 2007. The Caravan has arrived! Hop on and go for a musical journey.
