It''s been over twenty years since N.W.A. first burst on the seen laying the groundwork for what would become the trademark sound for the West Coast Hip Hop scene. Gangster Rap hit with such a fury and went on to later influence East Coast and Southern Hip Hop. Even with the likes of Del tha Funky Homosapien, Pharcyde and Dialated Peoples, it''s been more than difficult for alternatives to the traditional gangster style to fully manifest on the Left Coast. But now as we get deeper into the new melinium, we are finally seeing some signs of the contrary.
Why this name?
"I became Drifta in ''94. I was in school at the time. I was always daydreaming and thinking of some creative type stuff. I decided to focus on Hip Hop full time. When I first took the name, I thought I was the only one. A few years later I noticed other people with the name. I thought about changing it, but Drifta fit me so well. So I started coming with aliases."
Tell us about the songs.
"The first song, All I Need is my intro, a shout out to all the beatmakers in the game, and a club song all in one. Choose Her was originally a different song, but once I thought of the reality dating show concept, I took it back to the lab."
