The Durocs formed in 1985 in a garage in Wrightwood, CA as a project fueled by an outlet to release some teen angst. They created a original guitar based sound with inspiration by early punk pioneers including X, the Minutemen, Black Flag, the Meat Puppets, Husker Du, R. E. M. and the Dream Syndicate. They played on bills with Dinosaur Jr., Firehose, Kyuss(later to form Queens of the Stoneage), the Voodoo Glow Skulls and many others. The original members include Brad Smith on guitar and vocals, Randy Edgerly on bass, and Rob Park(a. k. a. Zippy) on drums. This was before the time of pro tools and unlimited editing capabilities and, of course, no auto-tuning. All of these tracks were recorded on analog 8 track reel to reel recorders. The Durocs released two cassettes in their 2 years of existence which make up the reissue released in 2008 called The Ranch Archives that features 16 tracks. Brad Smith and Randy Edgerly went on to form GRiN in the early 90’s and then, later form the successful underground band Mulch, having some success in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Mulch also included family member John Edgerly on guitar. Rob Park went on to form a variety of bands, one with Randy Edgerly and John Edgerly, called Scumbag Metropolis. The Durocs existed from 19985-1987 but cranked out some good music in a short time.
