During their over 28 years of singing God''s praises, the New Briscoe Brothers of Southern Maryland have touched many lives with their unique style of gospel music. They have gone through several name and member changes throughout the years. Two of the original members, who are now deceased, were older brothers Garland and Robert Briscoe.
The Group have opened for and met many well-known gospel recording artist such as: The Sensational Nightingales, The Canton Spirituals, Slim and the Supreme Angels, Luther Barnes and the Sunset Jubilees, Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes and recently Michael Cook of the Mighty Clouds of Joy. The group has appeared on the old morning show "Spread a Little Sunshine" on WTOP Channel 9. And have recorded singles such as "Yes I''ll Walk along with Jesus and "I''ll be Satisfied.
The Briscoe Brothers changed their name to "The New Briscoe Brothers" in 2005 to reveal their new style and sound of music that consist of contemporary and traditional music that crosses racial and cultural barriers.
They have recently recorded a CD entitled "Stay on the Right Side" with all original music and lyrics written by brothers Oscar and David Briscoe. Their title song was just recently played on WHUR 96.3 Sunday Gospel with Jacquie Gales-Webb and Patrick Ellis.
Members include: William (Oscar) Briscoe lead singer/songwriter, David Briscoe (Duke) - guitarist/singer/songwriter, William Briscoe, Jr. (Little O), Briscoe - singer, Mike Grove - guitarist/singer, William (Bay Bay) Fenwick - bass guitarist and Charles Wilson - drummer.
The group had to overcome many obstacles with illnesses and passing away of the two original members of the group. Oscar just recently had surgery to remove an inch long bone in his neck. The doctors were unsure of his complete recovery, but God had another plan.
Today he sings at an Octave higher than before he had the surgery. Oscar''s voice has been compared to a mixture of Sam Cooke and Al Green. With God''s grace and mercy the group continues to minister the gospel in song.
