Martha Taylor LaCroix (aka Marti Lynn) began her musical career in Orleans, Louisiana as vocalist with the Dick Stabile Orchestra. The late Dick Stabile was former Musical Director for Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis. Her first album recorded—“Introducing Marti Lynn”, was produced by Wardell Quezergue of "Mr. Big Stuff" and "Express Yourself"— R&B hits of the 70s. Her disco version of "Who Can I Turn To" released in 1979 is still downloaded by disco enthusiasts. During her time in New Orleans, Ms. LaCroix sang in the chorus of the New Orleans Opera Company. After moving to Los Angeles she performed in the musical “Get Happy” (based on works of composer, Harold Arlen—“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” to name one of many—She was noted for her rendition of "Happiness is Just a Thing Called Joe."
Her new CD, "Seasoned for Christmastime" is a haunting musical journey that embraces the true meaning of Christmas AND was inspired as a reminder to pass that meaning on from generation to generation. What began as a Christmas present to her father; she now shares with listening audiences around the world.
Ms. LaCroix is the daughter of internationally acclaimed minister (retired), Dr. Gardner C. Taylor. He received the Medal of Freedom in 2000 from President Bill Clinton for his work as pioneer in the civil rights movement and was a mentor to civil rights leader; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
She links her music to the causes that enable ministers to rejuvenate & seek counsel when needed by creating confidential venues that link active ministers with the wisdom and experience of retired ministers around the world. She works along with Bishop JD Wiley, founder of Life Center Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana & The Gardner Taylor Distinguished Preaching Series, to address special needs of ministers.
Ms. LaCroix is a contributor to the publication soon to be released, "Messages to the Dean," titled: "Love Letter to My Father." It is the entree to a series of sermons & essays by ministers across the country who have been influenced is some way by the work of her dad.
Her life experiences have added new depths to the songs she sings, particularly in her interpretations of "Silent Night" & "I Give You Jesus." These are "must haves" to add to your music repertoire.
