“Follow the Cross” is The Braeded Chord’s fourth CD of original music, and is a collection of praise and worship songs. FTC contains nine new songs and three remixes of Braeded Chord songs from previous releases. At the heart of this new CD is music that was originally commissioned by and performed at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu—"Kyrie", "Gloria", "Lord’s Prayer" and "This is the Feast" are all a part of the "Alleluia!" communion setting written for LCH. Songwriters Sharon Dennis and Doris Au MacDonald recorded these and other originals in their usual fashion, adding lots of instrumentation, voices, and easily going from simple acoustic to bigger rock styles intertwined with some Celtic touches.
"Amazing Love," the opening track, is a medium-paced rock anthem inspired by Charles Wesley’s hymn, "And Can It Be." "Come Let Us Turn to the Lord" has a jazzy, laid-back vibe to it with fretless bass lines laid down by Jim Robeson and featuring brother Ken Robeson on soprano sax. The title track, "Follow the Cross", is unadorned but soul piercing, reminiscent of an Allison Krauss ballad. In contrast, "Holy Holy Holy", "Gloria", and "This is the Feast" showcase TBC’s wall of sound, with electric guitars, synths, organs, choirs, handbells, and all the stops pulled out—“all the sounds of heaven,” according to Dennis and MacDonald. As in previous projects, not only are the lyric and melodic lines eloquent, but also there is artful instrumental prosody. Drummer Antoine Sanfuentes is a great addition to the project. The CD was recorded at BIAS Studios in Springfield, VA.
“This is very impressive!” enthused Charlie Pilzer of Airshow Mastering in Springfield, VA, upon hearing the CD.
The Braeded Chord, acoustic duo, are two-time WAMMIE winners (Washington Area Musicians Association), winning Best Gospel/Inspirational Group of 2007 and Best Gospel/Inspirational Recording of 2006.
