Based out of Eureka, CA and formed in 2006, Ukesperience is a primo blend of rock, folk, and blues with an island vibe. Less than one year later, the group received an endorsement by Pono ‘ukuleles from Wahiawa, Hawaii. This ukulele-based group features unique, custom, innovative instruments in ukulele form. Ukesperience doesn''t tiptoe through the tulips, they run amuck in the musical forest.
Joe Koches is the frontman on concert uke. On tenor uke, lapsteel, and electric uke, is Jason Hodel. Tim Johnston, on bass, custom makes some of the ukes, including his bass ukuleles, the lapsteel uke, and the electric uke. Dave Sandomeno plays percussion. Everyone in the group plays ukulele. Ukesperience was the only US mainland performers invited to the 2008 Waikoloa Ukulele Festival on the Big Island of Hawaii.
With a grass roots approach, Ukesperience does their own promotion and CD recordings are engineered by Tim, the bass player. Ukesperience’s natural sound strongly emphasizes the ukulele, producing, not just the usual standards, but interesting and innovative tunes as well. They have been featured on https://www.tradebit.com’s Radio playlist and https://www.tradebit.com’s episodes #302 and #219. "Float Your Boat" is featured on a Japanese compilation CD, called Shout Baby Shout Vol 2.
