Just who is Righteous B?
Righteous B has been an avid fan of hip hop ever since "The Fat Boys" hit the scene back in 85''. However his passion for writing and producing it sprung from a desire to evangelize inner city youth in New York who were not responding to traditional ways of preaching the Gospel. As a youth minister his motto became, "Preach the Gospel at all times...if necessary use rap." Weekly for outreach nights and occasionally for Mass, Righteous would write rhymes to use as a tool to bring the message of hope and truth to the teens. As "the B" started spittin, it became clear that teeny-boppers around the globe (not just urban kids - but even white, suburban, upright citizens!) really really like rap. In 2000 Righteous decided to lay down some tracks in the studio. And thus, henceforth - his debut album "Are You Ready for Righteous B?" was born, and the revolution began. Although most people were clearly not ready for Righteous B - he just kept doing his thing-a-ling. And as he continued to write and do shows around the country - his fame grew. (He now has over 27 fans!) A little over a year after his first release - he dropped another album - this one more stylized, focused, and pink than the first -- "Get the kids to revolt". Righteous B''s music is aimed at authenticity in message and in style. The goal is not to put some corny rap about Jesus made with a karaoke machine and a Casio keyboard into the hands of kids - But rather to give them some tasty loops - with a meaty center. Mr. Righteous resides in the mean suburban streets of Houston, TX with his wife and three overweight children. His passions include Jesus, his family, Polish sausage, rap, inner city youth, Krispe Kreme donuts, and mowing the lawn. (not necessarily in that order)
Righteous B ministries strives to bring to Jesus to people using hip hop, humor, and good looks. The goal is not just to entertain, but to open hearts to Christ in the context of the Catholic Church.
"Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him" Mathew 3:3
Most of the time in ministry it''s not the message presentation that seems to be the difficult part - but the means to open hearts. We see hip hop as a way to do that in a subtle yet effective way. Hip hop culturally has always been a voice to a people who have no voice. In a world that listens only to the powerful and political, rap has become a voice to those whose cry must be heard. Among that cry is the voice of Christ - a voice we find absent in the vast majority of popular culture. We believe Christ wants to move through the arts and through culture. Hip hop is a big part of both those things... and so we believe that Christ is all about hip hop. Maybe that''s flawed logic. Or maybe Jesus is speaking through the turntables.
The music we make is not extremely preachy - with every hook including the name of Jesus. It''s aim, rather, is to authentically share our lives, our stories, and our passions: all of which are intertwined with the heart of Christ. Our shows and records are centered around the voice of Jesus in John 10:10.
"I have come that you might have life and have it to the fullest."
To us - life is Christ. And ultimately that''s the fullness of everything we want to be about.
