BIO of Paul Gary
As a youngster, when I was 9 years old, I started playing bass guitar in my step-fathers band in middle Georgia. By the time I was 14, I had my own band and was playing rhythm guitar and singing lead in several local middle Georgia establishments. When I was 16 years old, I moved with my mother to El Paso, Texas where I got my first taste of western swing and fell in love with the Texas 2-step style of music.
I continued to pursue my music and during my service in the U.S. Army, my band Cross Country Jams, received recognition and special award for touring and performing for our troops at numerous remote outposts in South Korea.
After service, through a misplaced sense of loyalty to my now ex-wife, I laid my music aside for about 15 years. But I have now come back with a heartfelt need to write and perform.
I love to perform songs that either cause people to relate the lyrics to their own lives and are therefore memorable to them individually, or songs that they can dance to and have a good time, but because of the melody and the hook are memorable to them. Some examples would be Almost Home (which I recorded in my Feelin Like Merle album), Some Beach and Shell Leave You With A Smile.
I have just recorded and produced my debut album titled Feelin Like Merle Livin Like Hank. I either wrote or co-wrote 5 of the 12 songs on the album. There are also 2 other songs on the album that are first time releases.
Early influences in my style of music were Ray Price, Jim Reeves, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Marty Robbins and Bob Wills. More recent influences have been Tracey Lawrence, Brad Paisley and Tim McGraw.
