MP3 Rob Hornfeck - The Rob Album

HOT BACON is on this one. Wicked guitar and cool lyrics on the first solo release from the former guitarist of Babyfat.

11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Progressive Rock, POP: Quirky

NEWS FLASH!!! "HOT BACON", the opening track of THE ROB ALBUM, was played NATIONWIDE on NBC''s TODAY SHOW! At the beginning of the March 22nd cooking segment "Bacon Bonanza" the song could be heard, and reporter Ann Curry even ad-libbed some of the chorus!

Rob Hornfeck''s first solo release!

In September 2001, while his band BABYFAT was on hiatus, Rob released "The Rob Album". This eclectic mix of styles will satisfy the listener who is looking for something different. Anything goes here; tripped-out instrumentals, booty-shakin'' funk, rippin'' guitar solos...it''s all on one disc!

This disc features the live showstopper, "Hot Bacon", the ultimate one-chord James Brown induced boogiefest! "The main riff was floating around in my head for years...since about ''95," says Rob. "Babyfat jammed on this riff once or twice at practice, and I would just yell ''hot bacon'' every few minutes, with no other lyrics. I think I heard Maceo Parker''s ''Pass the Peas'' a day or two before, so that''s probably where the seed was planted. We never did much else with the riff, but it kept grooving in my head. Years later it was snowing one evening, and I stayed up all night watching the snow fall. I started thinking about when I would wake up as a kid to find out that school had been canceled due to snow...''Fairfax County public schools-CLOSED''...and how my brothers and I would go nuts , diving out into the snow. We''d always come back in the house to find the smell of bacon and pancakes in the air. Dad would be in the kitchen, making a giant breakfast. That''s when the lyrics just came out of me."

Also included is "The Cape", and the cape can be seen on the CD''s cover. This piece is an ode to Rob''s grandmother, who made the cape for him when he was in his "superhero" phase as a kid (weren''t we all?!). "I came up with the main riff back in ''92 or ''93, and I originally was going to call it ''Horsefly'' or ''Cliff Diver,'' says Rob. "One night after a gig, my brother Charlie (singer of Babyfat) and I were driving in the van, talking about the cape that Oma (german for ''grandma'') made for me. We were laughing about how I put it on and tried jumping off the picnic table the moment I got it. I said something about the ''disappointment when it wasn''t working'', and Charlie said, ''That should be the lyric!'' We played the main theme of the song at B-fat shows every once in a while. I still have the cape, and I''d put it on and do a stage dive into the crowd. Whether or not I''d ''fly'' changed from night to night. Sometimes the people would just watch me hit the ground with confused faces. For ''The Rob Album'', I threw a few variations of the theme in there, and was able to get Oma to recite the opening lines of the song. Live, this one goes over great, but flight success still varies."

Don''t forget the final track, "10,000 Hippy Chicks Can''t Be Wrong". This song was written after the CD''s artwork had already been printed, and the music was already being pressed. Rob explains: "My uncle had just given me an old Yamaha acoustic that sounded AMAZING with a new set of strings, and this song just poured out. I set up a Sure mic on the edge of my studio desk, and just went for it. The acoustic guitar was supposed to be a scratch track to capture the moment, but the moment was perfect. I finished the entire song within three hours (first take guitar solo!), and decided to put it on the disc, even though it''s not listed. The pressing plant was cool enough to include the tune, and put list it on the CD. I guess I''m giving the obligatory ''hidden'' track, and didn''t even mean to!"
