Josh Romaine was born in San Jose, California on July 11, 1977. From that day forward, music has always been his passion. At nine months old Josh carried a portable radio around with him, dragging it from room to room, listening to music.
By the age of 5 Josh was mixing tapes with his friend Carlos. They would spend hours in the garage mixing up tapes. Driven at an early age to make music, who would have thought he would have come this far?
Josh would go through his ups and downs to find his sound for his unique style of flow that would carry him to the top.
In the spring of 1990 Josh and his mother moved to Washington state where his mother had taken a promotion. Josh finished middle school and continued his education at Richland High School where he was active in drama, wrestling and track, but his passion was for writing, which lead him to Mr. Bixby, his English teacher. Mr. Bixby encouraged Josh to write what he was feeling on paper. When Josh would write it would come out in poetry form. Josh's mom would even kid him about his writing. She would ask, "are these really your words Josh?". She was amazed at what her son was writing and how he was writing it.
Josh graduated in 1995 from Richland High and hit the road to the big city of Seattle to pursue his life in music. But a call for help from his family brought him back to the Tri-Cities, where he now records from his home base, Shua Records.
Tragedy struck Josh in 1997 when he was left for dead on the streets of Kennewick. He was, "at the wrong place at the wrong time". Josh was at a party and got into a dispute with another rapper that night. The other rapper, who will remain nameless, assaulted Josh to the point that he was left for dead on the streets. The fight was all over Josh being a white rapper. Josh had no idea what had hit him or why at the time of the beating.
At 3:45 in the morning Josh's mom recieved a call no mother would want to recieve, that her son was seriously injured and she was needed at the hospital. Josh was beaten to the point that he was hard to recognize. Unconscious, lifeless, no movement at all. He had 2 frontal lobe hemorrhages, massive swelling, and no speech pattern. Josh's mom knew some friends of hers who were prayer warriors and she asked them to come pray for him. His progress had not been good up until the prayer warriors came. Josh's belief in the power of prayer had made him half whole again. The recovery was a long process and the event changed his outlook on life. And from this turn of events, Josh decided to record Mortal Struggle his first album, under Shua Records and through music, Josh Romaine became ROMAINE.......
