The Tony Reynolds Story - Full Circle...A Musical Legacy
Full Circle is a return to a simpler time. A time when music and lyrics were a work of art and singers performed their music in intimate settings live, in person and unplugged. Full Circle is a collection of music representing the artistic work of Tony Reynolds, a rising singing sensation during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The Full Circle recording project started as Reynolds'' personal commitment to leave a musical legacy for his family and friends. The reaction to the initial release was overwhelming. This positive feedback convinced Tony to produce a CD for the general public thereby enabling him to come full circle and close the gap in his singing career. A dream he had always had and could not pursue until now.
During the mid to late 50s and 60s, Tony was very active and recorded a variety of songs produced at recording studios located in New York, Atlanta and Nashville. During these recording sessions, Tony worked with some of the eras great musical arrangers, singing groups and musicians including: Sy Oliver, The Ray Charles Singers, Bob Armstrong, The George Shearing Quintet and Roy Clark. These records provide a musical snapshot of the kind of music America listened to during that period.
Tony was born Edmund Antony Dante and raised in Brooklyn, New York. As a young boy, his singing role model was his father who had a beautiful tenor voice. Poppa constantly encouraged him to sing Italian songs for visiting family and friends. Reynolds''s early musical training came from the Saint Ephrem Parochial School Choir. The Choir Director, Sister Henrette, was a formidable musician who instilled a love of music and personal discipline in Tony that would sustain him all his life.
On his sixteenth birthday, Tony''s father bought him a Martin acoustical guitar. This magnificent instrument started him on the road to show business and was his faithful travel companion on tours across the US. The guitar is alive and well and is affectionately called "Poppa".
Reynolds was a true entertainer in the context of the 50s and 60''s. He was a singer, guitarist and nightclub performer. His lyrical tenor/baritone voice enabled him to artistically render a wide range of songs rich both in content and variety. He was equally at home with popular ballads, old standards, folk songs, Broadway show tunes, rock and roll and rhythm and blues. Reynolds'' singing debut began with an appearance at the Apollo Theater in New York. He was active as a performer and starred as the headliner or opening act at many popular 50s and 60s vintage nightclubs, supper clubs, theaters and dance halls across the eastern seaboard.
He was a featured artist with a number of entertainment legends including comedians Jimmy Durante, Joe E. Lewis, Rowan and Martin and Maury Amsterdam. Reynolds also appeared at world famous New York Resorts including Grossingers with Red Buttons and The Nevele with and Morton Downey, Jackie Mason and world famous violinist Florian Zaybach. During this period, Tony also worked with well-known orchestras of the period including Charlie Speviak, Ray Anthony and Dick Mullner.
Reynolds appeared on a number of popular 50/60s TV productions including the Jacqueline Suzanne Show, Phil Robbins, The Joe Franklin Show, The Big Payoff and The Bess Meyerson Show. In addition, He also made numerous appearances on two radio shows sponsored by the United States Air Force, Manhattan Melodies and Music In The Air.
Reynolds never forgot his show business roots. The opportunity to close the loop on unfinished business happens once in a lifetime. And so, this musical legacy represents Tony''s way of honoring his commitment to himself, his family and his fans. The time was right to come Full Circle and finish what he started as a young man.
It is an American story.
