MP3 Rachel Taylor Brown - Do Not Stare

Frank, funny, sad, cranky, beautiful and raucous....the mutant offspring of ray davies, aimee mann, laura nyro, annie lennox and ani di franco, with a little freddie mercury thrown in.

11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Acoustic, FOLK: Folk Pop

Details:
"A singer/songwriter of perversely addictive off kilter story-songs. Rachel Taylor Brown and her modern rock band create catchy pop with a dark side."
Lisa Lepine, Music Industry Consultant

"...an impressive range of styles... What ties them together is her equally impressive vocal range. With just a guitar, she''s capable of hard-driving rock and tender ballads."
Dan Eichler, Borders Books and Music News

"Brown''s songs have been described as catchy alt-pop, but they''re darker and subtler than that. Many of them have a twist that catches you by surprise... Dawning awareness that things aren''t what they seem is another favorite theme."
David Stabler, The Portland Oregonian

"Rachel Taylor Brown''s music defies easy summation. While most of her songs emanate from a folk idiom, there are enough directions to keep any listener on his musical toes... Her singing voice is instantly familiar while remaining uniquely her own...her consistently skewed lyrical perspective always keeps things interesting. This is thoughtful music for the thinking person."
S.P. Clarke, Two Louies Magazine

"Brown first demonstrated this amazing scope on her first CD, "Do Not Stare," and she continues to amaze on her new CD "Jonah Days." Over the course of 12 tracks, Brown spins out strange, unsettling stories about fate, bad timing, grand disappointments, cosmic punishments and the blurred line between dream and waking. Brown doesn''t make it easy, but she makes it well worthwhile. A few times through Jonah Days and you''ll agree."
Dave Mazza, editor, The Portland Alliance

"Candid and diverse."
https://www.tradebit.com

"The poet, arranger, vocalist, guitarist and piano player takes an unusual angle on funk-alternative pop music."
Salem Statesman Journal

RTB Band*Sketchy Ted*James Sasser*Mission 5*The Lonesomes*Scotland Barr & the Slow Drags
Portland musicians are coming together to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Gales Creek Camp. We and the other bands taking part are doing so in support of one of our own. Henry Kilman, three-year-old son of our friend, Sketchy Ted drummer Tommy, was diagnosed with diabetes last November. Tommy organized "Rock Against Diabetes" to raise money for the JDRF and Gales Creek Camp, a summer camp for kids with diabetes. RAD is holding the event at Kennedy School because they want families to attend together. Unlike most music venues in Portland, Kennedy School welcomes children with their parents. "We''re doing this for Henry, so we wanted him to be able to enjoy it," Tommy said. He''s encouraging families to bring their kids. Should be a blast--please come out and help make it a success!
