SAVOIR FAIRE
SOLO SOUL COLLABORATION

Give GOD the glory. This "Solo Soul Collaboration" is the product of several months of soul searching. In spite of many of life''s difficult challenges, there is a special place in the heart where creation is salvation. I have accepted the responsibility of serving humanity via two totally diverse professions-- Medicine and Music. As a physician (Diagnostic Radiologist), my niche in society is clearly defined.--to diagnose various disease processes. After many years of intense study, certification by The American Board of Radiology, and several years in private practice, I have developed the ability to detect and interpret very subtle radiological findings and convey this information to the patient''s doctor who then develops a treatment plan. Radiological diagnosis occurs "after the fact". Specifically, the radiological observation is made after the abnormality is present. The differential diagnosis consists of all of the possible disease processes based upon the patient''s demographic information and other factors. Choosing the most likely diagnosis is an essential skill that is required in order to be an effective member of the Health Care Team. My professional involvement in Diagnostic Radiology is truly a blessing and I will continue to strive for excellence in this field of Medicine.
Conversely, the ability to create music is a proactive process and, in my case, it is truly a GOD given talent. It is a vital means of expression that complements my responsibilities as a physician. My stage name, THE MUSICIAN PHYSICIAN also describes my lifestyle. Music is my love and Medicine is my life. Mix the two together and you fill the prescription for the Ultimate Musical Medicine that is guaranteed to soothe the body as well as the soul! Oftentimes my musical medicine is therapeutic for others, while other times, it produces a calming effect upon the originator.
Although the concept of Music Theory implies that there is structure in music, there is also a sense of freedom that must be experienced before it can be realized. As I indicated in the acknowledgements of the "Suite" Love Project, I do not formally read music. Yes, I have read a great deal about music theory and other technical aspects of instrumentation and song writing, but the music that I create comes straight from the heart.
What I have done on this project, may possibly be interpreted as self-serving. Being an only child has facilitated my ability to be independent. Specifically, I am responsible for all of the production, writing and arrangement of these 11 original songs. Also, I provided all of the instrumentation, lyrics and vocals that you will hear. Saxual Overtones Studios provided the conducive atmosphere where I performed all of the recording, engineering and mixing magic. Many people think that a studio is a place. To some degree, this is true. One must also realize that a studio may represent a state of mind. Although my musical offspring are born in the studio, they are usually conceived during everyday life. Even mundane experiences may precipitate musical thoughts and melodies as well as rhythms of the soul. These songs convey a multitude of emotions that are constantly in a state of flux. It is my hope that these melodies will become a meaningful part of YOUR life. I feel that you need to know these facts so that you will be able to understand the complexity of my inner being and comprehend the level of gratitude that I have for THE CREATOR. I have had no formal training in any of the aforementioned musical areas. It is my hope that you will interpret this project not as conceit on my part, but as positive proof of the power of GOD. He has taught me not WHAT to think--but HOW to think.
In the Music World, most songs are written by several musicians who contribute their special talents in such a manner that the whole of the creation exceeds the sum of the parts. Usually, each musician specializes in one particular instrument. I have always wondered what it would be like for one individual (ie., me) to create an entire musical project. This life-long dream has now come to fruition. Although the concept of collaboration usually entails a "meeting of the minds", I wanted to push the musical envelope by creating a collaboration within myself--between the different parts of
my mind-- my heart--my body--my soul.
I refer to the SAVOIR FAIRE project as my
SOLO SOUL COLLABORATION

THE MUSICIAN PHYSICIAN
BIO

Bert Cody Piggott Jr., M.D. "THE MUSICIAN PHYSICIAN" is a Board Certified Diagnostic Radiologist and a Smooth Jazz Saxophonist. Instead of being limited to only one profession, he has decided to serve humanity via two totally diverse professions--Medicine and Music. Primarily, he is a Radiologist who interprets radiographs (X-rays), CT scans, MRI scans, mammograms and many other radiological modalites. He also performs invasive procedures such as biopsies and drainage procedures. Because of the need for an outlet, his musical interest has progressed to the next level. Dr. Piggott has honed his musical skills so that he can now operate on the soul. Because of these combined attributes, he is "licensed to soothe the body as well as the soul".
Musically speaking, this Greensboro N.C. native is a GOD taught saxophonist. He also plays flute, clarinet, keyboards, and percussion. He also sings as well. The Musician Physician is the president of Saxual Overtones Productions. This company consists of Saxual Overtones Records (record label), Saxual Overtones Studios (studios) and Saxual Overtones Publishing (publishing). Piggott and Saxual Overtones Publishing are affiliated with the American performing rights organization BMI as songwriter/composer and publisher respectively. The performing artist''s stage name, "The Musician Physician" also refers to his lifestyle. He constantly writes the prescription for the perfect balance between Medicine and Music.
Cody''s smooth, seductive, sizzling saxophone skills have enabled him to open for sensational saxophonists such as: Boney James, Marion Meadows and Kim Waters. He has also opened for the smooth jazz group Pieces Of A Dream. Piggott has also performed with Marion Meadows, Tom Browne (trumpet), Melva Houston (vocalist) and Bob Baldwin (keyboardist). Piggott was an investor in Baldwin''s https://www.tradebit.com CD project. Piggott also shared the stage with Gladys Knight''s saxophonist Vince Priester as they sat in with the house band at a very popular Charlotte N.C. Jazz Club.
Receptions, banquet functions and jazz clubs provide The Musician Physician with the opportunity to "work the crowd". This performance style enables him to interact with the people on a personal note (pun intended). With his sophisticated wireless microphone setup, he weaves through the crowd and delivers subliminal saxual overtones that they will remember for quite some time. His prescription for sufferers of Jazzitis is a dose of Savoir Faire---to be taken aurally. As a member of The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., he has performed at the Kappa Conclave (national convention) in Charlotte N.C. and he has performed at two national conventions of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., (Dallas, TX and Orlando, FL) Piggott has been called upon several times to provide entertainment for the annual Tim Reid Celebrity Weekend (Norfolk, VA). His skills were also displayed at the Livingstone College Celebrity Weekend (Charlotte, N.C.) and the N.C. A&T State University Chancellor''s Inaugural Banquet as well as the N.C. A&T State University Lyceum Series (Greensboro, N.C.). At this event, The Musician Physician gave a 1 1/2 hour long one man show. The Sax Doctor performed two musical sets dressed in two different stylish outfits. Between these two performances, Piggott, dressed in his white physician coat (stethoscope included) gave a very motivating speech on "how to become successful in life". His speech and performances captivated the young college students and adults who were in attendance. As you can see, this individual is multi-faceted and strives for achievement in every field of human endeavor. As an aside , you need to know that during the 1976-77 season, Piggott played Junior Varsity Basketball for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Tarheels). He is very proud of the winning tradition and educational excellence that are a vital part of this great institution. Congratulations are in order for the 2005 NCAA Basketball National Championship Team. Go Heels!!!
Savoir Faire is The Musician Physician''s third CD project. His first CD (single) entitled First Impression included the songs First Impression (title cut) and Next Step. This debut CD was very successful on all accounts and received considerable radio airplay at several Smooth Jazz radio stations across the country. Piggott stated " I still haven''t cashed the royalty check. It is still framed and hanging on the wall". His second CD entitled "Suite" Love was a collaboration of several talented musicians and received extensive radio airplay and sales. In addition to artist-initiated CD sales at performances and events, "Suite" Love has also enjoyed extensive sales (domestic and international) via the internet. Specifically, the internet-based distribution company CD Baby (https://www.tradebit.com)
has successfully facilitated the distribution of these smooth jazz tunes to the World. Additionally, Piggott and Saxual Overtones Publishing have partnered with BCD Music Group and have established a successful music distribution deal that already has a proven track record. Through this company, the saxman''s music is available to many more people who are actually shopping for new tunes. Currently, his music is available at several FYE stores throughout the country as well as Planet Music (Virginia Beach, VA).
In addition to these methods of sales, Piggott has also established many (too numerous to count) consignment deals with various music and variety stores in the Southeast. The Savoir Faire CD, otherwise referred to as the Solo Soul Collaboration was produced, written, arranged, recorded, engineered and mixed solely by The Musician Physician. Piggott stated "I wanted to push the musical envelope by creating a collaboration within myself--between the different parts of my mind--my heart--my body--my soul " He provides all of the instrumentation and vocals on this project. The 11 track saxually soothing Savoir Faire is a personal glimpse into the smooth jazz world of Dr. Piggott. It is a saxual expression of his life experiences, daily challenges and triumphs and musical influences. Romantic ballads are interspersed with up-tempo dance tunes. Some of these songs are literally "out of this world" (Cosmic Reign and Moonbeams). Black Satin is a surreal song that is guaranteed to put you in a trance. Peppermint Player conjures up memories of undergraduate fraternity life and step shows. Sax Café is a rendition of a live performance in an imaginary Jazz Club. Let''s Bounce!!! Is a song that carries a double meaning. On one hand, this term may express one''s desire to exit a place abruptly. On the other hand, the bouncy feel of this song and the authentic basketball bouncing at the end are a tribute to the 2005 NCAA Basketball National Championship Team. Maracas en Caracas is laden with a plethora of latin percussion instruments. Caribbean Wanderer was written for Hurricaine Isabel. Meteorologists possess very sophisticated methods of tracking these very dangerous storms. It is ironic, however, that although they know exactly where the storm is at any given time, NO one truly knows where it is going. Lights Out! was written during the massive electrical power outage that occurred in the New York area. Coach''s Melody was written in honor of the memory of Piggott''s father--The Late Bert Cody Piggott Sr. The melody of this song is reminiscent of the call and response whistle that was used to identify fraternity brothers when Piggott attended the University of Illinois. Oh, by the way, congratulations are in order for Fullback Piggott andThe Fightin'' Illini''s 1946-47 Rose Bowl Football Championship Team. The title cut, Savoir Faire is a saxual interplay between the upper and lower registers of Altonia (Piggott''s alto saxophone) At times, each voice is heard individually, while at other times, they play in perfect harmony.- This project truly exudes the musical growth that has occurred within the depths of his soul. The transformation from saxophonist to multi instrumentalist has begun.
