The Mayor of the next town rides into town, rushing into the Mayors Office to see his Cousin the Mayor and to warn him that the Inspector General is on his way. The Inspector General is in disquise and uncovering corrupt Government Officials and has had the Post Master hanged, the Chief of Police was let off with 200 lashs and he, the Mayor was sentenced to be executed but escaped with the Town funds.
Georgi (Danny Kaye) gets kicked out of a Travaling Medicine Show because he tried to give an old ladys money back. He wanders into a little town where he is picked up as a horse thief. The Town officaials set him free thinking he is the Inspector General.
