Shannon Murray is an singer-songwriter from the northwoods of Minnesota. A member of the next generation of great folk singer/songwriters, she is shocking and delighting audiences everywhere with her quirky stories and passionate songs.
Her second album "you and a six string" is a collection of new songs that will wiggle into your mind and set up camp. Recorded in a small studio on the Turtle River in a wooded area of Northern Minnesota, the album is a labor of love. Shannon is proud to proclaim it was made by local businesses, "My music is an extension of my personal beliefs, to separate the two is to live two lives, and I am not willing to do that."
This album spans a wide range of emotion:
saturday mornings with you is song about remembrances of childhood moments with her little brother "do you remember the time you chased me around the kitchen with the carving knife" shannon says, "yes it is true. every word of it. i know it sounds a little white trash, but we used to play this game where we''d run to the kitchen and who ever grabbed the biggest knife won the right to chase his or her terrified sibling around the house until mom or dad intervened."
i can love you is a painful message about suicide
southwind finds the little girl with a big guitar raging over political injustices with, "i wish i was the president so i could play god too...i wish i was a ceo so i could tell god what to do"
awanibiisaa and waa-izhichigeyang are two songs that are partially written in Ojibwe, drawing from her experience this year learning the language
and you and a six string, the title track to this album is a love song that is touching, catchy and impossible to forget
From the folksinger herself:
"Thank you for your interest. As always, know you make a difference to me and to so many other independent artists.
