Leah Lee is probably one of the most anointed, uprising Praise and Worship Leaders in the gospel music industry! Commissioned to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, through song, when asked the question, “Leah, what is “your” scripture – what leads you, motivates you, and ‘keeps’ you?” Without missing a beat, Leah responded “her scripture” is without a doubt John 4:23-24. In the Message Bible, it reads:
"It''s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That''s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before Him in their worship. God is sheer being itself—Spirit. Those who worship Him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration."
A native of the state of New York, Leah’s roots run deep in music. She sang at the A.M.E. church her father pastored, and she also sang Renaissance Music in High School, which is Acapella 16th Century Music. In addition, Leah sang with the recording choir, Tri-State Mass, for 4 years.
In 1996, Leah blessed the city of Atlanta, Georgia with her presence. Transitioning to Georgia, she joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, where she sat under the anointed teachings of Bishop Eddie Long. Little did she know, this was also to be the season that God would reveal to her that: her talent to sing was much more than just a “talent.” What Leah had was more than just an ability to hit notes and bring crowds to their feet. She had a call on her life, and it was to minister to His sheep, through Praise & Worship!
Still growing and maturing, God placed Leah at Turner Chapel A.M.E. Church. It was here, where the calling, the gift, “the baby” that was developing in her spirit was to be born! Leah was appointed as the first Praise & Worship Leader of Turner Chapel A.M.E Church, whose membership is over 5000. Ministering through song, and sitting under Pastor Kenneth E. Marcus, Leah’s ‘baby’ grew and developed into a full fledge Praise and Worship Ministry, with Leah Lee as lead! And from there, it was “all she wrote!” For five years, Leah allowed God to mold and cultivate her. It was here where she learned how to be sensitive to the call on her life and how to fully operate as a Praise and Worship Leader.
In obedience, Leah ministered in spirit and in truth, and in return, God moved her from “Glory to Glory.” He also moved her into the arms of her loving and ever-so supportive husband, Minister Rohan M. Lee! Together, they worship at New Mercies Christian Church. Leah currently serves as the Praise & Worship Leader. Her positioning at New Mercies Christian Church is another testament to the move of God on her life. Pastor Jesse Curney III, founder of New Mercies Christian Church is a Preacher, Motivator, and Teacher! All of this combined into one, has allowed the four year old church to grow quickly to 5000 members plus! Leah’s charge and calling, to a church that is growing so rapidly, is to effectively touch the lives and hearts of people through Praise and Worship. And that she does! Cutting the atmosphere, with a bodacious, but angelic voice, she sets the tone for the man of God to bring people into relationship with God, and to be all that He has purposed for them to be. To sit under the Praise and Worship Music Ministry of Leah Lee, one can’t help but to become involved in the experience! Spirit filled, anointed, and sincere – her voice ushers you into God’s very presence.
The story does not stop there! Because she is a servant that understands the nature of her calling, Leah actively seeks way to stay pure and to understand the whole make-up of God (not just her gift). This pursuit, has lead her to Beulah Heights University. On May 5, 2007, she will obtain a Bachelor''s Degree in Biblical Education and in November 2007 she plans to enter into studies to obtain a Master’s Degree in Leadership.
