MP3 Sirens' Song - Daughter of Ocean

All girl folk/Celtic acoustic music with lush harmonies. Poetic lyrics of nature and the sea.

14 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Folk Pop, WORLD: Celtic

Details:
Sirens'' Song was established in 1996 in the huge town of Abilene Texas. For those of you geographically challenged that''s in the dead center in the state. The group met when the members worked with one another on theatrical productions, and we have been going strong even after the productions were over.

As an acoustic group-we play more than 20 instruments specializing in guitar, mandolin and viola. With folk lyrics, and pop rhythms, we prefer to sing songs that are poetic, and mostly refer to nature and the sea. You can hear Sirens Song on https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com, the Prairie Ceilidh show on CKJS 810 A.M. (Manitoba Canada), the Local Yokels radio show and https://www.tradebit.com. Sirens'' Song is currently working on a new CD that will be released in May 2004. The cd, "Starlight and Shadow" will offer all original songs with Sirens'' Song signature harmonies.

In 2003, Sirens'' Song partnered with "Last Chance Forever Bird Conservancy" to write a song in tribute of falcons and falconry. With this partnership, the band received a national grant to help fund the new cd, with a portion of the profit proceeds benefiting a conservancy that helps rehabilitate injured birds of prey.

Last year, we were reviewed by the professional internet music magazine, The Muse''s Muse, whose comments you can find below.

We write all our own stuff, we play all our own instruments, we write our own instrumental and vocal arrangements, and we are an all-girl band. Here''s some info about us as individuals and how we work in the group.

Rikie Floyd, born Richondra D''ray...but no one can pronounce that, so her friends call her Rikie. Rikie has long blonde hair and killer looks. She is really the marilyn monroe of folk music! Don''t be fooled by Rikie''s looks, she is smart as a whip and extremely organized. If she sets out to do something, it gets done. Rikie keeps us on track and makes us really WORK in rehearsals. Rikie is married to Bob, and teaches physical education. Rikie also plays several instruments, including flute, guitar and mandolin, and is great at arranging music. She is the one up in the stratosphere...a strong high soprano that is great with harmonies and weaving parts. She also teaches acting and improv for a performing company and is on cast for a major Renaissance Faire in Texas.

Hilary Walton...she''s our youngest member. Petite features, beautiful face, hip dresser. Hilary is a full time English professor in literature areas, so she is our brains. Hilary writes great music and plays viola and guitar. Hilary began the group when she was in college, and has continued to hone her talent as she gets older. She sings a third above or a third below the melody line, but is really an alto/mezzo soprano. Hilary explains things when they get too complicated for the rest of us. She likes things precise and perfect. She is an incredible singer, and can hear harmonies very well.

Next is Marla Touchstone. Beautiful face and an even more beautiful heart. To know Marla is to love Marla. She is our wise and patient member who stabilizes the group. She rarely moves quickly, but likes to take time to enjoy the things around her. Marla has a great ear for arranging, and can create instrument parts as well as vocal parts. She plays many instruments, but prefers singing over playing. Marla is an encourager, and NEVER has anything bad to say about anyone. She loves beautiful things and LOVES singing with us, for which we are all glad. Marla is our bass and keeps us grounded in more ways than one. Marla is married to Stephan, and has two children, Alexandra age 7, and Jessica age 2.

Last is LeighAnn Heil. LeighAnn is the dark-haired tall girl who writes most of the music. She has over 40 songs written in the last 2 years, most of which are performed by Sirens'' Song. She is a clown who prefers to joke around at rehearsals, necessitating Rikie or Hilary to bring her back in line. LeighAnn has performed so many places that she cannot name them all, and her radio jingles have played for years in several markets. She sings lead and plays guitar (LeighAnn prefers Takamine) as well as mandolin. LeighAnn has literally sung all over the world, including; the USA, Rome, Florence, Geneva, Austria, Germany, Capri, and a run at the world''s fair in Seville, Spain. Whew. LeighAnn used to direct variety shows, but now finds great fulfillment in her son, Ryan (4 years) her husband Robert and Sirens'' Song.

To quote...
Michael Henry Martin, Castle sound studios...

"Wow, you guys are like Joni Mitchell on steroids"

And that pretty much sums us up. Enjoy the CD..
