Details:
This is Johnny Victory, the voice and guitar of the Dystorshun Brothers, speaking to you from the depths of the abyss. The group which formed a few years ago, my brother plays bass and our friend Joe plays drums, they are the nucleus of the Dystorshun Brothers. A Los Angeles based band that formerly rehearsed in Hollywood and played through-out Southern California.

The thing that inspired us to create the music was from our true life experiences, coupled with our distorted view of the world around us. We really loved playing and reflecting different emotions and dark colors through our amplifiers. Bizarre and sinister as it might seem, the heavyness of the beat and the sonic assault of the music is the foundation of The Dystorshun Brothers.

One of the best parts of being in The Dystorshun Brothers was when we were in the studio recording this album . We had such a great time trying out different recording techniques and experimenting by using different kinds of microphones on the bass and guitar amps and the drums. Some of the sounds on the album actually occurred by accident by placing too many mics on a particular instrument, When we heard it through the playback speakers in the control room we ended up using alot of it. On many of the songs we treated the vocals with a lot of distortion and effects to get the vocal sound that best expressed the vibe and mood of the particular song that we were mixing down.

Now about the Brothers; Joe was in High School when we first hooked up with him several years ago. When Steve and I first heard him we said to each other; “this guy got to be in our band.” We really loved his extremely powerful and aggressive metronomic style of drumming. He is originally from Kentucky he currently resides in Hollywood California. Steve and I are Southern California natives and we spent all of our time growing up together listening to all kinds of different music, and creating our own unique sound. I started playing guitar and singing when I was fifteen years old. Steve must of liked what he heard, so he bought a bass and an amplifier and joined me with our musical endeavors. When we met Joe we gelled so well together naturally he became like a member of our family. We had our own private rehearsal studio behind the house that we lived in. This gave us several hours a day learning and getting our songs tight. Hanging in the studio was alright because we had a lot of other bands, musicians, and friends coming around to listen, jam, and hang out with us. I felt more comfortable singing with the volume of the vocals coming back at us really loud through the floor monitors. It was so funny because at the beginning of every rehearsal session we would go through this whole dramatic scenario about how loud I could have the monitors up without killing Joe and Steve. Then they would start in on how my guitar amp was so frickin loud all of the time. The whole time I’m thinking to myself ,”oh how wonderful it is to have a drummer that plays with drum sticks the size of small baseballs bats, and a bass player with a super sized monster bass stack, and they think I’m too loud, oh wow!”

At the live shows there was a lot of family, close friends, and Dystorshun Brothers fans. After the shows we would always go to a local hangout to mix and chill with everybody. All of this along with our sometimes distorted perception of ourselves, other people, and the dysfunctional world, is why we call ourselves
The Dystorshun Brothers.
