Sean has been a guitarist for the past 18 years. He graduated from Berklee College Of Music (Boston, Massachusetts) in 1997. It was there he studied with the likes of Mark White, Brett Wilmott and Jon Finn. It was there that he started developing his style of integrating jazz sophistication with the fire and punch of rock music.
"New Time" is Sean''s debut contemporary jazz instrumental album. The songs feature Sean on electric and acoustic guitar. It also features some of Toronto''s best young talent; Ben Riley on drums and percussion(Holy Cole, Planet earth, Michael Burgess, Bruce Cockburn), Michael Janzen on piano and hammond B3 module (Penny Merchants, Jacob Moon, Steve Bell), Michael Pellarin on bass (Mamma Mia, Hiram Bullock). Phil Dwyer also made a guest appearance on "Agape" playing Soprano Saxophone (Alain Caron, Doug Riley, Carol Welsman, Kenny Wheeler)
The music is very powerful...beautiful melodies with a tight rhythm section. There''s a lot of spirit in this music...very moody and atmospheric. From beautiful ballads like "Saying Goodbye" a la Pat Metheny....to "Dark Night of the Soul" which is a very dark, spiritual song. Other songs like the very playful song "New Time" move into the world jazz realm....combining cuban rhythms with rock aggression...something you certainly have to hear to believe!
All the music was written, arranged and produced by Sean. Stylistically Sean describes it as being "Pat Metheny meets Steve Vai at a party Martin Medeski Wood held for Miles Davis).
While studying music in Boston, Sean came to the Christian Faith. Having played contemporary worship music for so long....elements of that music are visible in these compositions.
