It is Music To Your Ears
By MERI R. KENNEDY/Story written in Cranston Herald November/2008
For Jeff Grenier, owner of Allied Court Reporters in Cranston music has always had a place in his life. He began playing guitar and writing at age 12 and played until age 17. For some reason, Grenier stopped playing for over 20 years and then started playing and writing again at age 38 in 2005.
Now, Grenier and his partner Abdul Mateen have released their first CD called “Traveling Through Time” which has a story line throughout and it consists of 10 original songs with lyrics and music written, arranged & composed by Grenier and some of the lyrics co-written by David Petrone who is a singer on five of the songs on the CD. Dave is a long time friend of Grenier as well as a known writer and vocalist. Jaams stands for Jeff and Abdul’s Music Studio.
In essence, “Traveling Through Time” is a CD about life and its trials and tribulations. The songs all reflecting on the mystery of life so accurately, listeners begin to get lost in the lyrics and reflect on their own lives. It brings a strong message to all ages and crosses over to a multiple of genres.
“The CD if different than most in the sense it is more of a compilation of many ideas and many different styles of music formed together on one CD,” said Grenier. “I believe there is something for all ages and for people who like a variety of music as compared to many of the artists today that get stuck in the same style and their music all sounds the same.”
Traveling Through Time was just released last month, yet sales have already been coming in strong.
Grenier’s passion for music, however, is not just about the release of his new CD. He, along with Mateen, a past Grammy nominee, has built and has begun production at Jamms Music Studio, located in the basement office of Allied Court Reporters.
Construction for the studio began in 2005 after Grenier cleaned out the storage in the basement of Allied Court Reporters. After 9 months of construction, sound proofing, wiring and creating quality sound conditions, the state of the art sound equipment was brought in.
“I wanted to provide a studio for local talent looking to break into music,” said Grenier. “We offer demos, writing, sound engineering, mixing mastering, creative artwork, graphics. We can do a CD from start to finish as we just did with mine.”
In 2006, Grenier was introduced to Mateen and they began working together in 2006. Mateen, an accomplished drummer with two original CD’s of his own, provided Grenier with a perfect partnership and friendship. One of Mateen’s CD’s was nominated for a Grammy. Mateen is also a veteran of over 20 years in engineering of music.
Production of “Travelling Through Time,” began in May of 2006 after Grenier approached Mateen with the concept of the CD and some of his original work.
“Unlike most, we are not only the musicians and creators of the music, but the engineers and producers as well right to the point of the final product through Jaams Studios,” said Grenier.
Grenier’s guitar heroes are George Benson, Santana, and Wes Montgomery, just to name a few and his background is rooted in Rock, Blues and Jazz.
Although Grenier confesses that his love of music did not come from his immediate family, the support of this project and all his endeavors in life certainly did.
“I love all forms of creative expression from poetry which I have been writing since I was a teenager to lyrics and music once I developed some talent for it,” said Grenier. “I hung around with every rock band from the 80’s locally and some professional just to get some experience in music.”
“Travelling Through Time” is available at https://www.tradebit.com and soon will be available at the studio’s web site at https://www.tradebit.com. The CD is also available at Barnes & Noble and Newberry Comics.
