Details:
Constantine "Stan" Martin was born in Westmoreland Jamaica West Indies on a warm tropical day. From an early age of 8 he had always shown a genuine interest in singing, songwriting and acting. Although he made brief appearances on church concerts, plays and school shows in his early teens, it was not until he arrived in the United States in 1990 that he truly emerged as a professional artist and forayed into the music industry. Through the early to mid 1990's he wrote and recorded many jingles for radio shows on the east coast of America. Lovers HQ a critically acclaimed reggae winning program which hailed from Boston Massachusetts was one for which he was credited in writing and singing the theme. It comes as no surprise that Stan's first college degree concentrated mainly on the performing arts. While in college he was able to experiment with all the genres of music of his interest; the list went from reggae to jazz, classical, R&B, pop/rock and the Broadway show tunes.
He proclaimed that with the help of the great music professors and self-determination he was able to apprehend the subtlety in the vocal styles and musical arrangements required to authenticate these respective genres. In 1996 he was chosen by the well renowned musician and musical conductor Professor Motley at The City College Of New York to sing as one of the tenors with the New York Metropolitan Choir at the Marriot Hotel in midtown Manhattan to honor the most elite alumni of CCNY. Among the guest was the Honorable Mr. Collin Powell who is currently the Secretary Of State Of The United States. "Professor Motley is a perfectionist who musically brings out the best in anyone with whom he works; we share the same birthday and he is still the only person that I know personally with the capacity to sing from a range of deep baritone to high soprano" (Stan Martin).
For Stan Martin, the later part of the 1990's brought him full circle, back to the rock steady bass of reggae music. While finishing his second degree, a B.S. in Education, he polished his onstage charisma as an opening act and background vocalist for the Tegareg Band in Brooklyn New York which was at this time one of the finest backing band in reggae. The fast rising reggae star Glen Washington was at that time the drummer and also a background vocalist for the band. Simultaneously, many songs were being recorded for different producers however; most of the productions were not done on the magnitude or with the vision that Stan was aspiring for. By 2001 Stan Martin sang background vocals for most of the big name singers in the reggae industry. Some of these artists are: - Carlene Davis, Marcia Griffiths, Dennis Brown (R.I.P.), Freddie Mc Gregor, Bob Andy, Alston Ellis, Nadine Sutherland, Eddie Lovette (R.I.P.) Everton Blender, Pam Hall, Kashief Lindo, Shine Head, Maxi Priest, Dobby Dobson, Michael Rose and the list goes on. He has also shared center stage with most of this artist. Most people would be somewhat satisfied that even with no release on a major label they have still been able to know, do and be exposed to so much of the business, but not Stan Martin.
In 2002, he took his career into his own hands by forming his own company Soundstar Productions and started producing himself. He was able to culminate all that he had learned in the training ground and incorporate them in his own repertoire. "I know what I like and I like what I know" (Phil Collins - Genesis) he sometimes joke. One of his slogans states that, "Quitters never win and winners never quit"(Stan Martin). His fan base starts right here in New York City where he is a Teacher, an Assistant College Soccer Coach and also a role model for many of the inner city youths. He uses this platform to guide and influence others to strive for success in their personal lives. His first Maxi single "Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away) is already creating a major buzz in Jamaica, Europe and here in North America.
Throughout the years a wide range of singers and songwriters has influenced Stan; his most favorites are as follows: -
Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Air Supply, James Ingram, Diane Warren, Quincy Jones, Beres Hammond, Jimmy Cliff, Maxi Priest, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kenny Rogers, Patti Labelle, Dolly Parton, Aretha Franklin, Lionel Richie, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Luther Vandross, Michael Bolton, Garnett Silk, Freddie Mc Gregor, Dennis Brown, The Manhattans, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Peter Cetera, and Don Henley. "Wherever they are, the ones alive and the ones who have past, I would like to say, thank you for the music; you have all created the soundtrack to my life" (Stan Martin).
With years of experience touring as an opening act and background vocalist this singer/songwriter is definitely one of the artist of the future. Through his vocal styles he epitomizes the true essence of high quality reggae when merged with the genre of pop.
