I grew up in East Texas in the 50’s and 60’s, listening to various Country and Gospel stars. From the likes of Ray Price, Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, George Jones, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline, Connie Smith, Red Foley etc. In the last 10 or 15 years I have come to enjoy the music of George Strait, Alan Jackson, Tracy Byrd, Patty Loveless, Lee Ann Womack and others in the “traditional” Country Music sound. I’ve been influenced by many Artist through their unique and distinct styles. Listening to Ray Price for so many years, and the fact that I believe he has one of the finest voices ever to be recorded took me on a journey covering most of his songs. This album, though not “traditional”, lends to those roots. Larry Fargo was a very good friend of mine from the North Dallas area. We met about 1983, and spent 10 years “chasing” the Country Music dream. He passed away about 4 years ago, not long after his wife Ann had passed away. Larry, in my opinion, and other’s, was one of the best “unknown” Songwriter’s that has lived. The “twist” he could put into words and hide between the lines would make anyone a fan very quickly. The 10 songs on this album show the diversity of thoughts that he had on love, marriage and relationships. We sat many hours talking about life, the ups and downs. He always had a notebook with him wherever he was, filled with thoughts and phrases. I was never sure when something that we were talking about would end up in one of his songs. We talked a lot about the music business, and the rewards if you were “lucky” enough to get one of your songs recorded by the right Artist. I’m sad to say, that never happened for Larry while he was alive. He wrote, as many of the people currently in Nashville do, for a specific style and Artist. There are 4 new songs on this album that have never been released to the public before now. He was a very big fan of Don Williams and showed that in “The Girl Who Wrote The Song”. He became a very big follower of George Strait and admired the songs that he chose to record. We talked many times about George and his career, so he wrote “Out Of The Blue”, and Turnin’ Me Loose On You” in hopes of getting them to him. He also enjoyed Hank Jr. and his “rowdy” Honky Tonk, so he wrote “Honky Tonk Fever” in mind for him, and by the way, I actually was with Larry as he wrote this song, and to my knowledge, am the only person to have recorded it. Maybe as you listen, you’ll hear the “resemblance” to the styles that I have talked about. Larry wrote over 400 songs in his life time, but only a few, maybe 20 or so have ever been recorded. In the time ahead I hope to bring you more of his songs. Now as I carry on with his music I hope to show what a gifted, and talented man he was.
