For nearly ten years, Derrick "D" Taylor has been delighting audiences in Charlotte R&B clubs with his powerful voice and almost limitless range. It is fitting that the singer/songwriter was born in the musical mecca of Memphis, Tennessee; as his vocal sound and style is often said to be a "new-school" version of the great "old-school” Stax Records sound of the 1960s. Among modern artists, "D" lists Dave Hollister, Luther Vandross, John Legend, J. Styles, Al Green, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Kanye West, Donnie Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, and Gerald Levert, as his main influences. In addition to his duties as MC at Charlotte''s well known Allure Lounge, "D" works in his community as a youth counselor. Between time spent at work, performing publicly, and recording, "D" has still found time to raise a family, and is the proud father of four wonderful boys, who he calls his greatest inspirations.
