Vocalist Sue Matthews first appeared in 1991, releasing the traditional jazz album LOVE DANCES that year. Her "silky smooth," "honey-toned," "expressive" smoky croon caught on with audiences and critics alike. Two years later, her When You''re Around scored her another hit. She spent most of the 90''s touring behind these two albums and appeared at every sort of jazz showcase or festival she could make it to. LOVE DANCES is a baker''s dozen of some of the most seductive and stylish songs you''ll ever hear. Matthews is backed by a superb rhythm section headed by Stefan Scaggiari (Concord Jazz) whose arrangements are wisely sparse, allowing Sue to showcase her extraordinary style. A gifted pianist, Scaggiari''s sensitivity follows and anticipates Sues'' every inerpretive nuance. Sting bassist Keter Betts (Ella Fitzgerald) sets the mood, enhancing Sue''s subtlety throught the album. Guitarist Steve Abshire and drummer Mike Smith round out this first rate quartet, creating the gentle acoustic sound that characterizes LOVE DANCES.
