This Audio book is based on a published book of the same title by Editorial Norma in Mexico. “Rene y el pigmeo en la selva” is the title in Spanish, the language the book was published originally and also narrated in this CD. It means “Rene and the pygmy in the jungle”. Rene is the name of a kid, an ordinary kid, neither the tallest, nor the shortest, neither skinny nor fatty, but when the occasion arises, he becomes as intrepid as any brave young character of any adventure story.
The audio book is narrated by the author, Emma Romeu, with music, sound design and engineering by Alejandro N Rodriguez, a Cuban born sound engineer with more than 20 years of an international career in everything related with sound. He is now an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music, in Boston, teaching at the Music Production and Engineering Department.
Born in Havana, Emma Romeu is an author of literature for young adults and an environmental journalist. Her work has been published in international magazines such as National Geographic, and by publishers such as Alfaguara and SM. Some of her books have been translated into English. Emma Romeu’s books are available in the USA through Lectorum and Santillana USA. Titles: El Rey De Las Octavas/ The King of Octaves, The Bee Hummingbird (Animals of Americas), Here Comes The Grey Wolf (Animals of the Americas), My Manatee Friend (Animals of the Americas), The flamingo legs, Gregorio y el mar, Gregorio y el pirata (in Puerto Rico), etc. She has more than 100’000 books already sold!
The author wonderfully narrates the story, all characters with their own characteristic voice and personality, and, don’t forget, their own music theme. There is a lot of work behind this project. Long hours reading, adjusting the voice tone to perfectly match the character, listening, reading again, and then lots and lots of more hours editing and transforming some voices, composing, arranging, recording and mixing the music originally created for the main characters and actions in this story, then mixing the whole audio book, a 74-minutes-long amazing sound landscape which will nourish the imagination of kids, young adults and adults alike.
Alejandro N Rodriguez, born in Havana too, and married to Emma, comes from a music family. His father, Nilo Rodriguez was a recognized music composer, educator and advocator of music and culture, his mother, Elvira Fuentes, the most famous name in Solfeggio teaching in Cuba, his sister, Ariana, a pianist playing all, I mean all types of music. There was a time when they had 3 pianos under the same roof.
