“I’m certainly not happy with the state of popular rap music today,” says Sach, one member of the Austin, Texas, groundbreaking hip-hop collective, The Smoke Jumpers. “There’s almost no substance, or originality, to the majority of popular hip-hop music. Hundreds of copycat rappers with a bunch of songs telling you how rich they are, how many cars they have, what kind of jewels they rock, and how many women they have. I’m only slightly interested, and slightly entertained.” “That’s why I’m pleased with the album I’ve put together (Sach’s recent solo effort, “Stranger Things Have Happened”). I want to focus first of course, on making the songs interesting, entertaining, and different from what’s already flooded the market. I want each song to have elements that make the listener think about things in the world around them, but I don’t want to get preachy, because what the hell do I know?” Sach was raised in the Texas rock scene, playing drums for many years in local punk and metal bands. A lifelong fan of hip-hop music, Sach began his foray into the Austin,TX hip-hop scene after his group disbanded in 2003. Along the way, he partnered with WildCard, from the pioneering Austin hip-hop group Arctectonics, and, along with https://www.tradebit.comoto (Arctectonics) and Houston group https://www.tradebit.com! and The Mann, formed The Smoke Jumpers. The last couple of years have been spent writing songs and bringing their energetic live performances to rap fans all throughout the state of Texas. Along the way, The Smoke Jumpers released the Volume 1 and 2 mixtapes to great response from the hip-hop community. As The Smoke Jumpers have continued work on their first “official” album, Sach has taken a do-it-yourself, “garage-rap” approach to releasing his solo effort, with all tracks written, produced, and mixed by the artist himself. The album itself is an uptempo-downbeat work of musical origami. A little anger, frustration, vision, humor, and hope all folded together into sound. With the self-proclaimed “random thoughts” style, a little bit of everything comes together on this refreshingly original release. High-energy, compelling beats, with lyrical influences ranging from pioneers such as The D.O.C., Beastie Boys, and Kool Keith, to modern intelligent wordsmiths like Aesop Rock and The Wu-Tang Clan. A truly eclectic mix, Sach has created a sound purely his own. This fresh, new sound, along with his continued presence in the Texas hip-hop scene with The Smoke Jumpers, makes Sach a definite artist to watch in the near future.
