Chicago-based singer/multi-instrumentalist Darren Robbins first attained national acclaim with his 1988 solo debut, "Darren Robbins Steals Your Girlfriend", which featured the college/modern rock radio hits "Fire From A Stone" and "Caroline''s Sister Desiree".
"Rules Get Broken" is the second release from Robbins in the last three years and features material that was originally written and recorded for inclusion in the film "High Fidelity" (John Cusack, Jack Black). Moreso than on any of his previous efforts, Robbins'' love for layers and layers of blown-out guitar tones shines in all of its jagged beauty. Influenced heavily by early Sisters of Mercy and My Bloody Valentine, Robbins'' songs are deceptively edgy while retaining his trademark soaring hooks. Wrote a reviewer for MOJO magazine, "Nobody writes a chorus like Darren Robbins, whose knack for melody is effortless and sublime. Lyrically, nobody can touch his ability to capture the complexities of love-gone-wrong in a simple turn of phrase."
Currently at work on a third Time Bomb Symphony CD, Robbins has made a limited supply of "Rules Get Broken" available after the initial pressing of 5,000 sold-out. For any fan of hook-driven pop, with no shortage of chugging guitars and snazzy analog synths, this is the CD you''ve long dreamed of discovering. Buy now, you''ll be glad you did.
