Singer and songwriter Peter Grecoâs operatic release âMonth of Sundays, Vol. 1â is a musical debut that reflects Grecoâs careful consideration of life and living as an American male born at the end of the baby boom. The fictional work begins with the birth of a late boomer, and ends with his death 84 years later. Volume 1 takes just over an hour of listening time, as the life of a late boomer passes quickly and often dramatically, from birth to about age 42, through the years as they pass into memory like a month of Sundays. The concept is that an opera of 30 songs can tell the story of a life as if it were 30 memorable Sundays. There are three stages in this particular month, the first being the upbeat, âgoâ stage filled with anticipation and signified on the CD cover by the color green; the second being the dark, âstopâ stage filled with trepidation and signified on the CD cover by the color red; the third being the resolute, âacceptanceâ stage filled with the discovery and embracement of wisdom and signified on the CD cover by the color blue. These might not map to stages in every life, but Greco says "they map to many of the lives that I've encountered, and also to my own experience in many ways."

The story itself is more complicated than any formula might imply, which is fitting, Greco says, because "the subjective nature of every life requires that common experience is in fact always in doubt. The character in Month of Sundays is flawed in ways that are both common and unique, and with any luck, listeners will recognize both."

The artist himself is a late-boomer, but he describes his life and times as significantly less dramatic, and probably less complicated, than the character in "Month of Sundays." Peter Grecoâs background includes a lot of research and study of music as an art, and he considers music as âan ultimate form of literary expression that, if done well enough, allows the listener a personal significance in the intended message.â Greco lives âa largely routine American life in a mostly routine American home with the requisite routine in the modern American family, thus providing significant opportunity to understand that routine does not really exist." The impetus for this opera was the desire for many years to have a defining work that used the style and genre most naturally occurring in the artist's mind, which is very undecided.
