Darren Cogburn a.k.a. D.C. the general is a Christian rap artist from Detroit , Michigan. After moving from Detroit, Michigan, Darren moved to East Lansing MI and attended Michigan State University. Darren majored in education and received his teacher’s certification after five years. Darren gave his life to Christ in 1995 and started attending the church that he is a member of now, Life Changers Christian Center. Dr. James and Stacia Pierce taught Darren the fundamentals of Christianity as well as how to live a prosperous life as a Christian. All the while, Darren maintained his deep love for hip-hop music and had been rapping since he was 12. Rap culture had always been a part of who Darren was, but now as a Christian , Darren had to transform his talent to convey his transformed lifestyle. Darren decided that he would continue to rap for Christ after being inspired by such artist as the Ambassador, Lecrae, Da Truth, Mizz Reality and many others. Opportunities to rap and guest appearances on CD’s kept coming up! Darren did raps about Cedar Point Trips, Raps for his Pastors birthday, raps in the choir and raps for the step team he belonged to. As a teacher, Darren realized that though he loved rap, education was important and he went on to obtain his Master’s degree in Special Education. While attending this church, Darren enrolled in a class entitled Design Your Life that was created by Dr. Stacia. During this class Darren explored his purpose and Darren decided that recording a cd was something that he always wanted to do. Once again, the opportunity presented itself and Darren created the CD, Higher Heights
