Vesper: old English for nocturnal; ''of the night''
Album: ''Sleeping with Ayn'' was written and recorded solely at night. It is a passionate, desperate and at times triumphant celebration of Ayn Rand''s heroic sense of individualism.
Grappling with religious absolution, disposable soulmates and crippling loneliness this debut album is a nocturnal testament to Francis Bacon''s expression:
"There is no excellent beauty that hath not some strangeness in the proportion."
Vesper is a South Orange County-based band led by singer/songwriter Isaiah Mickelson. The band features the technically superior lead guitar work of Josh Gordon backed by the versatile rhythm section of bassist John Simon and drummer John Adams.
With an emphasis on craftsmanship and virtuosity, Vesper melds acoustic and electric guitars creating an eclectic aural palette of melodic texture and rhythmic groove. Described by the Sun Post News as a "passionately original band," Vesper fuses those two rarely combined elements that make great music great: passion and discipline.
"Vesper is not a household name, yet. But if Mickelson''s voice, and the poetic lyrics to his original songs, have the power to mesmerize a two-year-old, you can imagine how beautiful this music is," writes Justine Amodeo, editor of Coast magazine.
Nominated in April of 2005 by the Orange County Music Awards to be one of the top five bands in both "Best Indie Rock" and "Best Live Acoustic Band," Vesper believes the song must capture the players before the players can capture the people.
The goal is as simple as it is complex: to both capture and be captured...every time they play.
....long live the night
