First impressions are lasting impressions and smooth jazz saxophonist, writer, and producer Edgar Wallace Jr. leaves a musical impression on his audience that''s phenomenal.
Edgar is a native of the Metropolitan Detroit area, and he has released his nationally distributed smooth jazz c.d. entitled "On The Beach". Edgar wrote and produced every song, (except where noted), which was co-produced by bassist, Al Turner. Edgar used some of the hottest session musicians around who have performed with Anita Baker, Earl Klugh, Aretha Franklin, Oleta Adams, and Ronnie Laws to name a few.
"On The Beach" is receiving a warm welcome from listeners and various radio stations across the country. Metropolitan Detroit radio stations WGPR 107.5 fm and WDTR 90.9 fm has shown positive support for their Detroit native. As stated by one fan, Vicky Snyder of Renaissance Unity "I fell in love with his music from the start. He has high energy.... Everybody that came to [his performance] was absolutely blown away by the artistry, by the feeling, the tone--everything--and asked me if I would book him again because they enjoyed him".
Edgar has opened up for jazz greats David Benoit, Jean Lucponty, Russ Freeman and The Rippingtons at the Freedom Hill Amphitheater of Sterling Heights, Michigan. Edgar was also a "2002 Detroit Music Award nominee for Outstanding Jazz Composer".
"Growing up exposed to musical styles ranging from Marvin Gaye, to John Coltrane, the Temptations and to the contemporary sounds of Grover Washington Jr. allowed me to appreciate different genres of music". "Coming from a younger generation of electronic music and smooth grooves, the contemporary saxophone of Grover Washington Jr. definitely inspired me to take my saxophone playing to another level."
Edgar plays keyboards, soprano, alto and tenor saxophones. He also composes, produces, engineers and performs digital audio editing on the computer. This is quite an achievement for one individual and it demonstrates the drive and determination Edgar possesses to be successful in the music business, which will certainly be evident when listening to his c.d. entitled "On The Beach".
" All of the songs on the c.d. mean a lot to me, as any song should to an artist who performs their own material. " Take My Hand", "Soul Journey" and "The Dress" are special to me because the songs appeared to me while dreaming.
I know that none of this would be possible without God, and I know how it feels to be personally blessed by God".
