“Like in some strange time warping dream where producer John McEntire brought Joy Division to Abbey Road and forced them to cover a Thievery Corporation album in the style of the Beatles ''White Album''.
This is easily best Monta At Odds work by far, a real masterpiece. This album takes the grooves and psychedelia of the last Monta At Odds album, Gringo, and adds tight musical changes that give the songs another dimension, a level intricacy that truly justify it as an entirely instrumental release.” Emch – Subatomic Sound 91.5 FM Radio NY
Monta At Odds returns with a focused set of songs that combine the fleshed out live band with the delicate touch of studio production to create a vintage/modern collage. Outono is Portuguese for autumn and holds the key to these songs: movement, transition, slight regret, and a fondness for the old but conversely a longing for the new.
Fresh off of the Gringo tour, Monta At Odds moved into the studio to realize the versions played live in various forms during the last tour. Instead of rushing the recording in a short sitting, the band decided to focus on presenting the material for a listening environment by creating a lasting effort that stands on its own and re-experienced in a live setting.
Having decided to release the album on vinyl, every care was taken in structure, sound and quality to maximize the allowed time. Instead of an almost unlimited amount of space available through CD and mp3 release, this new time constraint helped mold every touch, echo and silence presented in Outono. The patented melodies and grooves are back and of course the spaced-out production. But in the midst of this tension is an underlying refrain that softens the transitions and helps you welcome the change and not mourn it
Hailed as Space Rock, Downtempo, Psychedelic,Chill, Monta At Odds is all of the above and yet somehow manages to be distinct in their approach. So sit down, relax, turn off the cell, and enjoy every moment.
