It contains a single 32 minute track from the BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO, recorded live at The Central and released in 2008 as a preview for the 2009 release of "Raw & Unadulterated". The trio weaves it''s way interpretively through 2 tunes - Stevie Wonder''s "You Are The Sunshine of my Life, which morphs into Joe Henderson''s classic "Recorda Me". These tracks do not appear on the "Raw & Unadulterated" recording, though were recorded earlier in the set at the same live concert and are thus considered a collector''s item. Enjoy!
BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO
2007 winners of the Canadian National Jazz Award for
"Electric Jazz Group of the Year"
Brownman - electric trumpet
Tyler Emond - 6-string electric bass
Colin Kingsmore - drums
"Brownman''s powerful electrified trio captures the essence of the later years in Miles Davis'' life, his electric period, without imitation. Brownman''s ELECTRYC TRIO is uniquely his own, yet echoes with the sounds of ''Bitches Brew'' and ''In a Silent Way'' right down to Miles'' use of electronics while still managing to stay grounded in the sounds of today. Clearly paying apt tribute to Brownman''s NYC mentor Randy Brecker, they are a truly impressive and energized modern jazz outfit."
Toronto’s NOW Magazine writes:
“It’s incredible the energy output these three men can generate... with only three of them on stage my ears would swear they were hearing a whole electrified orchestra”.
Nominated in an unprecedented FIVE categories at the 2007 Canadian National Jazz Awards, Nick "Brownman" Ali is called "Canada''s preeminent jazz trumpet player" by New York City''s Village Voice. This acclaimed NYC trained Trinidadian born trumpet icon is widely considered a vanguard for the evolution of Canadian jazz.
Tirelessly leading no less than SIX highly respected ensembles, he is best known for his work as the leader of Canada''s premiere latin-jazz ensemble CRUZAO and his electrified Miles Davis'' influenced ELECTRYC TRIO. Since returning to Canada from NYC, he has been on the cutting edge of modern music in Canada for the last decade, winning multiple awards nationally and achieving international recognition while touring the globe.
