Singer/songwriter/guitarist Shawna J debuted her distinctive style in the early ''90''s fronting the popular Honolulu power-folk band Chosen View. After touring with Chosen View through California and Washington State, she then spent nearly 4 years on the East Coast of the U.S., performing and recording in Philadelphia, New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C., and Delaware. It was during this time that she recorded "Six" and "Alternacoustic."
Shawna J returned to Honolulu at the end of 1997 and was soon appearing in the infamous "Women with Guitars" series at Honolulu''s Borders Books & Music. Two of her songs are featured on the Women with Guitars compilation disc that celebrated the concert series.
After a short stint singing Hawaiian music in the duo Kalakupua, Shawna J returned to her roots and re-emerged on the Honolulu music scene as a modern folkster...this time as a solo perfomer.
She relocated to the Bay Area in January 2006 and has infused her sound with elements of soul and jazz. Look for performances in the Bay Area and new music to emerge in 2006 and 2007.
Shawna J is known for her rich, velvet-strong vocals and intelligent lyrics. She has "resident musician" status at Honolulu''s Soullenz Gallery where she plays monthly to her growing local following, and pursues opportunities to play at festivals and conferences throughout the U.S.
