Traysee
Rock groups are always springing up everywhere, but the millennial band Traysee is certainly one that''s not your garden-variety. Its sound is bold, inventive and as fresh as anything one might find in the meadow of popular music.
With its roots deeply planted in classic rock, musical theater and just about any catchy pop tune ever written, Traysee''s modern mix seems to be a can''t miss. "We''re combining strong melodies and good old-fashioned lyrics, but in a more up-to-date context," said Traysee, lead singer and songwriter. "The music of the 90''s was all about angst and I for one, am sick of all that. I feel like being happy and creating uplifting songs."
Traysee has always believed in the power of positive music. Initially, she formed the band in 1998 as an outreach for youth prisons. Her tunes were so well
Received that she decided to record and release an independent CD titled "Wildflower" in 1999.
The CD received a Popular Award 2000-2001 from ASCAP. The track "Cocoon Me" was a winner in the San Diego Songwriters Guild''s Song of 2000 contest and got airplay on LA''s 95.9 fm "The Fish" radio station.
Since 1998, the band has gone through several personnel changes and a name change (formerly the band was known as Wildflower). However, its gigs at Los Angeles clubs such as the Troubadour, the Hard Rock Café, the Gig and the Knitting Factory have remained consistent.
The current lineup includes Traysee (rhythm guitar/vocals), John Young (bass/vocals), Joakim Eckberg (drums), and Matt Mitchell (guitar/vocals).
In 2002, the band released its second CD, "Lift Off." Traysee penned all of the songs, which touch on subjects such as love and the lighter side of life.
"I think it''s very bright and has a lot of energy," Traysee said. "We''re not trying to follow any trends or copy anyone. We''re trying to be true to our own musical tastes."
Traysee''s philosophy is what keeps it churning out songs that fans will continue to savor far into the future. As far as rock bands go, the group is definitely one of the best picks of the 21st century.
