Calloused got its start when singer/guitarist Caleb Davidson and drummer Nathan Jeffries started jamming the songs Caleb had been writing, back in 2004. After moving out of his mom’s house where the early formations of the band were hanging out, Caleb moved to Covington, KY. This became the party pad that allowed Caleb, Nathan, and the previous members to party, write and jam songs late into the night with no shortage of friends around to listen. It was here that early formations of songs like “Let Me Be” and “Calloused Man” came to fruition. Nathan was in school at the time outside Nashville, and was travelling up to Covington on weekends to jam. It was when Caleb came to Nathan one day and said he wanted to join him in Nashville that the band took a real step towards serious.
Upon moving, Caleb and Nathan picked up different members in Nashville and started playing out. The time in Nashville really was the test for Nathan and Caleb as they spent a lot of time getting songs together, wondering if they would be good enough to go anywhere. Time proved that it was worth it. Here they recorded a demo and started distributing it by hand and word of mouth. Then bad choices led to Nathan having to move back to his hometown outside Cincinnati, OH. Caleb stayed in Nashville and played bass in a local death metal band. Some time later, this all would change.
Caleb moved back to that same small town where they both grew up and he and Nathan picked the band back up. Caleb though wanted to focus more on guitar, so when friend/local singer Justin McCleese was suggested to share vocal duties, it seemed like a natural fit. Shortly before this, another high school friend, Jason Zeuch joined up. The band has been working with high school friend Charlie Martin on bass and is taking the regional music scene by storm!
After playing several shows from Cincinnati to Atlanta and places in between, the time seemed right to enter the studio to record an album. With no label support, Nathan, Caleb, and Justin headed to the studio to record their debut effort, “The Distance Between Us”. Jason added guitars to two of the tracks. On this album, Calloused delivers with sing along melodies over hard hitting riffs with a couple bonus acoustic cuts. Sure favorites are “No Wonder”, “Cut Me Down”, “I AM”, and “In Time”. The listener can really dig in and feel Caleb’s lyrics, carrying them through his thoughts and lends the tendency for the listener to apply his or her thoughts to their own situation. Calloused is good ole rock and roll with guitars, drums, and bass. “The Distance Between Us” is sure to rock you and share emotion with you. It begs you to sing along, and is best listened to loud!
